http://us.playstation.com/support/answer/?a_id=2185 That is Sony's official status, but sites like GameSpy and others are reporting that a group of hackers targeting Sony and the PSN are responsible. When I first noticed the sign-in issues, I contacted Sony PSN and got the "Certain functions are not available, thanks for calling" line only, before I checked the website. I'm actually surprised this isn't getting more attention than it is due to the size of the issue. We're not talking about one server. It's all the servers across MOST of the PlayStation Network. PSN has been down since early Thursday morning when the hack occurred, and could be a couple more days at least to repair and beef up security. Somebody won't be touching a computer for the rest of their life when they get caught. Oh, I should add, if it was hackers, it wasn't Anonymous, they always take credit for their work. |

Why? Because they deprived the people of a freedom? I thought you were all about being free to choose the path you want, the hackers just closed one for a while. |

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada: Anyway, +1 to the hackers Your giving the hackers a point why? They have inconvenienced millions of gamers, including myself. No, I don't sit in front of my PS3 all day, but I enjoy my Thursday gaming nights, and playing online with friends once in a while. This just proves these morons responsible have way too much time on their hands. Targeting Sony and the PSN is ridiculous. -J. |

Hilarious definition, I love that 'absence of necessity' is the first thing on the list. Anyhow, the corporation is not your friend, no matter how many happy gifts they shower you with. I really don't believe in letting the system drum on just so people can get their daily prescription of noise and light from their favourite family corporate conglomerate. It's a casualty, wah... Sacrifice this, get some actual freedom,

Due to conflicting work schedules, me and my best friend only play online together once, maybe twice a week. Being avid Gran Turismo 5 fans, we enjoy racing against each other, showing off our new cars bought recently, and sharing custom made tracks. Oddly, I don't see any scorn for how weakly Sony was protecting their customers information, such as credit card numbers. I don't subscribe to many things, such as; PSN, Air Miles, Store and Supermarket rewards cards - just because of their complete disregard as to how valuable that information is. Did you know that Best Buy keeps record of your Debit card and PIN whenever you make a purchase there? I cannot imagine what business purpose there could be to record information that only is applicable to me and my bank. Since they refuse to stop doing it, I refuse to shop there. |
