Post subject:  News Story on Syria in Russia

There's a story on the front page that says the Russians are moving into Syria in a big way for a military push against ISIS.

It seems blocked on the front page, but maybe you can reach it from here. (I can't reply to it and thus this thread.)

The mainstream doesn't seem to be accepting that claim yet, but the story began at a legit Iraeli news site.

$1:
According to Western diplomats, a Russian expeditionary force has already arrived in Syria and set up camp in an Assad-controlled airbase. The base is said to be in area surrounding Damascus, and will serve, for all intents and purposes, as a Russian forward operating base.

In the coming weeks thousands of Russian military personnel are set to touch down in Syria, including advisors, instructors, logistics personnel, technical personnel, members of the aerial protection division, and the pilots who will operate the aircraft.

Other outlets picked it up.

Putin's RT media denies it.

At this point though Business Insider seems to reflect the way most media sees it.

$1:
Persistent rumors resurfaced at the end of last month that Russia, dismayed by the difficulties that the Syrian regime has endured at the hands of ISIS and other rebel groups, has committed a large-scale force into the country to prop up the faltering Assad regime.

But these unconfirmed reports are nothing but rumors couched in the barest of facts, Mark Galeotti, a New York University professor specializing in global affairs and Russian and Slavic studies, told Business Insider.

In fact, the rumors miss one of the major developing stories of the conflict. Ultimately, "Russia sees Assad as a spent force," Galeotti told BI. "We keep hearing these stories because there are people with political incentives for when one data point pops up."

Still...if it does turn out to have some truth, we can say, oh yeah, old news. We knew about it back when.

Yea, it's missing the ":" in "https://" for the URL. Interesting story though.

I've seen a few things on other forums about this, too.

Russia is wanting to stand up to the US and NATO and Syria is a good place to do it. Russia and Syria have long been allies and if the Russians are on the ground in Syria to bolster Assad then that will muzzle Obama and his Saudi butt-boys who want to build a gas pipeline across Syria.

I support the Russians in this, too, because as they get involved in Syria they'll be less involved in Ukraine. That's good news for European stability.
