So when 800-1200 soldiers, civilians AND other media are standing/saluting, showing their respect for a fallen Canadian soldier, you say "so what" as far as Christie Blatchford sitting on the tarmac as the flag covered coffin was carried into the back of the herc?

I remember seeing pictures of miners at the Westray mine disaster in 1992, crying as they buried their colleagues. Were they wimps because they didn't "suck it up?"

I think the recent crisis shows exactly why we need this position. We need a referee, whose above the fray. She proved herself to be that. Despite the fact she was a Liberal apointee, she came down with an impartial decision that went contrary to what the Liberals were demanding.

Since then, the prorogation has lowered the temerature, the Liberals have deposed a hopelessly inept leader, and the country has returned to some semblance of normality.

I'd say the GG has done her job well.

As a reporter, she can stay distant and seperate from "those guys". Those sad guys that couldn't find real jobs or didn't have a dad who worked for Power Corp... I think that now that she is direcly involved with "those people" her opinion would have to change. That is, unless she's still a hardened sepratist bitch.. which I don't think she is.

How about taking the good with the bad. She's also a very well respected journalist, who, unlike many Canadian journalists, is a tireless champion of the troops and a strong supporter of your work. You were also ranting about the Winnipeg Sun because they ran a story about two soldiers who were done for Child Porn. It sounds to me like you just don't like media types and you apply the same sweeping, negative criticism of journalists that so pisses you off when others say nasty things about soldiers.

Sorry bud, she's no friend of mine. So maybe she was ill. Maybe she was overwhelmed by the emotion of the situation. I don't know, I wasn't there. What I'm saying you're basing your entire opinion of her on one negative incident, while ignoring the 5000 positive things she's done in support of your profession. That's not much different than ill-informed members of society developing a shit opinion of soldiers because they read that a couple got done for child porn, while overlooking the 5000 honourable acts that members of the military have done.

Don't think it's impossible that before we pull out in 2011, some huge controversy is going to erupt in Afghanistan. Maybe an unlawful killing, or some photos or videos that cast soldiers in a bad light. When that happens, there are going to be regiments of journalists from the Toronto Star, CBC, etc. who will be fighting each other to take strips off you guys. When that happens, it'll be the Christie Blatchford's and Rosie Dimanno's who'll be sticking up for you, despite your petty criticisms of them. Merry Christmas to you as well.

The Queen of England strikes me as very unaffected by her position. She talks a lot of sense in her annual Christmas speech. This is rather a message of hope in itself.

I'd say the GG has done her job well. What qualifies this Governor-General--or anyone for that matter--to be a referee? Who voted for her? Why should she wield any power? She met the necessary GG qualifications of being politically correct, speaking both languages and working as a journalist. She's an ornament. She shouldn't be making decisions of that magnitude in a democracy. AS for the crying--whatever. If you want your leaders to fall down and blubber everytime something goes wrong, then by all means fill your boots. Churchill, I'm sure, would have done a much better job if he had just openly wept instead of that silly "We will fight on the beaches" speech.
