What's the status of this petition? When will it be presented to government? Does anyone know if Ottawa will even consider it?

This is a good idea. At least, as I read the information, civilians won't be able to get this medal as they did the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal and the NATO Medal for the Former Yugoslavia as all the ATCO Commandos did between July 2000 and September 2003. That was a disgrace. However, they are getting the SWASM for sitting inside the wire at KAF!

I don't need a medal, I still have my uniform.
But whatever floats your boat.

Me to, but I noticed the oddest thing. [huh]

The damn thing shrank so much I don't fit in it anymore. Must be the damp weather out here.

Barking about another's place of duty is divisive to say the least. Someone has to be in the rear.

@ SprCForr ... I wasn't referring to anyone in uniform, regardless if they are in the rear or not. My comments were about civilians who work beside, or in some cases, just show up and when they have had enough go home. Only serious soldiers consider giving the same medals to civilians as they are awarded a serious and demoralizing problem within the Canadian Forces.

They're there to provide troops with the pizza, Timmies and burgers they've asked for while they're deployed. They're there to fill those kitchen slots, the maint and supply slots. Someone has to do it and since the unit CO's aren't willing to give up bayonets to fill clag slots, it then falls to a contractor to make up the shortfall. Unless the troops are willing to return to the austere conditions of the past, those civilians will have to stay and they (by necessity) have different terms of service. To get wound up about it is silly.

If that civilian worker is exposed to the same hazards as a uniformed member then the recognition shall extend to them. Civvies getting a gong after they satisfy those same time in theatre requirements isn't causing morale problems.

@ SprCForr ... well like I said boy, "serious soldiers" have an issue with civilians getting medals. After tours in Cyprus, Somalia, Croatia, Bosnia, Afghanistan (twice) and earning my Canadian, American and British jump wings, I can tell you that the soldiers I know agree with me. However, like me, they are "serious soldiers." I thought getting on this forum would be good, however I see it as lame, therefore I won't be adding any more comments so go ahead boy, slag me if you want, but deep down inside all that rah-rah B.S. of yours, you know you couldn't lace my boots!

Wrong. Serious soldiers don't give a rats fuck about gongs. But I have noticed the overwhelming support for this new medal is from those who did their 10 minutes, didn't deploy, and would now like something so they can feel good about themselves.

Gotta love those secret squirrel killer ninja commando snipers. The next post was likely to be a claim that he was the 2nd man on the balcony when he was with "them".

I have nothing bad to say about medal trinkets for them but could they possibly make them out of plastic (recycled) or maybe recycled aluminum beer cans. If we're going to waste money on feel good trinkets then let's keep it to a minimum. And it's nothing that a pat on the back wouldn't do anyway.

You do know there are date/time stamps on these posts?

These ones in particular are about 4 years old...
