A Pilot is a shortened Odyssy. People say the Odyssy drives nicer than the Pilot.

A longer wheelbase on a vehicle has the effect of mitigating rough road surfaces and thus it creates a better ride.

Go for a ride in a Fiat 500 to see what I mean. Be sure to wear a kidney belt if you're going to be on a rough road or you stand a good chance of seeing blood in your urine.

This class is what I am currently looking at. Not like I have much choice. But, I still don't see why the couldn't throw sliding doors on them, to make them at least have the access of a minivan...or give the 3rd row enough leg room to sit an adolescent.

Aside, minivans are called minivans because they were derived from full size passenger and commercial vans. Relatively speaking, they are mini compared to their originators.

Awesome! About time they brought back the DTS/XTS. It was getting annoying when all they had to offer was the CTS.

What exactly are you looking for? Something more like the traditional SUV's (back when they were trucks) or something with more seating?

What exactly am I looking for? Why, everything of course! I want the fun and zip of that AWD sub-compact car, with the seating of the mini van, and the tow package of a heavy duty truck!

All kidding aside, I am looking for a vehicle that suits my family needs. A big plus would be something that satisfies some of our wants as well.

Needs:
People mover. I am running around with 5 bodies (at a minimum), with 3 already at or near 6' height.

Cargo space to handles the goods of said people or the 2 dogs, and on rare occasions...both.

Wants:
Towing capability in the 5,000-7,0000 lbs range.

Fun to drive.

AWD for the Mrs. in winter.

My wants pull me towards the traditional, truck based SUV, my needs favour the traditional minivan.

Based on long term costs, and actual usage, I will probably be better served by getting a mini van and renting, or borrowing, an full size SUV when required.

The Odyssy also rides lower, so likely is less tippy, tho the long wheelbase certainly won't make it a canyon carver.

Have you looked at the new Honda Odysseys? They have a built in shop vac which would be pretty handy if your going to be carting around pets. On the Acadia, ya I wouldn't argue that it's not as big as a minivan cargo wise but it was a good comprimise for us. Theres still a fair amount of room for cargo behind the third row seating which was something that I didn't find with many of the CUVs/SUVs. With most models you had to either pick between the third row seating being up with no cargo space or vice versa. On the Ford Explorer, it's not bad car (more car than truck now)but it lacks the third row seating if I'm not mistaken. I normally rent Explorers when I go out of town so I've driven them a fair amount. I do find the touch screen a bit distracting though. What exactly are you looking for? Something more like the traditional SUV's (back when they were trucks) or something with more seating?

The Sport Trac and Ranger are very similar with one being the baby brother. Point being, not all vehicles that share a platform are larger or smaller versions of the vehicles they share a platform with.

Awesome! About time they brought back the DTS/XTS. It was getting annoying when all they had to offer was the CTS. If you get a chance, take out the smaller ATS. The car handles perfectly, very sporty and yet has all the Cadillac options you'd like. The paddle shifters actually shift the car exactly when you press them unlike most vehicles that have that shitty delay between paddle and shift.

That's on the look at list, OTI. I think I am going to take the family around the dealers and do some fire drills. Everybody in! Everybody out! If I find a full size SUV that works with minimal complaint, I'm good. Almost all of them tow in excess of what I need. If it does garner serious complaint, it will be van shopping time.
