our philosophy of continuing to provide good jobs to long-standing Canadian employees,

ROTFL ROTFL ROTFL

No employer talks like that ever.

I laugh, but it's sad.

Yeah, I know. Sometimes they're forced to it by self-interest, though

Even if you only pay the Inidians 20% of what a similar person would make here, it can still be a money-losing proposition. Fact is, an Indian call centre is an easy way to lose customers, because it often takes several more calls to resolve an issue. This isn't so much the case with banks (who don't have much in the way of competition), but in more competitive industries, where customers can easily defect to another company, my friend tells me that out-sourcing to third-world countries is not considered the panacea it once was.

That would be great news. I absolutely detest having a problem and talking to someone I can barely understand.

This whole issue is always answered by some radical elements claiming "the immigrants are just taking the jobs no one else wants!".

Isn't the fact that we are all so very tired of the waves of foreign workers (some of which are qualified great people I'm glad we have in Canada) and so openly outspoken prove that we do in fact value employing those already here first?

It seems the very outrage on this and many other jobs (such as mining) proves that the argument holds little to no water. If we didn't care for the jobs and would never do them we wouldn't be so outraged.

Knowing absolutely nothing about this situation, or if the disgruntled ex-employee's claims are true, I am nonetheless outraged.

Banks, I impotently shake my fist at you, adn will join a Facebook Page denouncing you. How do you like them apples!

I kinda wonder what companies will do when at one point in the future, there won't be anywhere left to cut.

Yeah, you've got to wonder how far and how many they can cut before people won't be able to afford their services.

How many burger flippers have RRSPs? Or can afford car loans? Eventually, all this offshoring is going to bite big corporations in the one place they care - profits.

My friend works for a hi-tech firm that has already discovered this. Even if you only pay the Inidians 20% of what a similar person would make here, it can still be a money-losing proposition. Fact is, an Indian call centre is an easy way to lose customers, because it often takes several more calls to resolve an issue. According to some recent stories in the Hollywood Reporter, the newest victim of outsourcing is the CGI and SPFX business in California. In order to maximize profits, the studios are slashing their effects budgets massively but they're still expecting the FX people to deliver Avatar-grade product for movies and TV on a shoe-string financing arrangement. Lots of FX houses have already gone bust and seen their work sent overseas to India and Sri Lanka where the workers are paid a fraction of what their American counter-parts are getting.

In the anti-globalist speak I believe it is referred to as "the race to the bottom." They should try outsourcing jobs that require no special skill at all, but I guess that means the managers would have to outsource themsleves.

Don't worry, in 20 years, when China and India are first world countries and North America is a "developing nation", the corps will outsource the jobs back for cheap North American labour. Retirement will be outlawed by then, so don't think you'll be too old to experience it!

WTF is going on. Nothing seems to be what anybody says it is including the Bank, the Gov't and the opposition?

$1:
But Opposition NDP Leader Tom Mulcair slammed RBC on Monday, along with the Conservatives, suggesting that government policies encourage this type of corporate behaviour.

"To allow temporary foreign workers, through this type of strategem, to be brought in to deprive Canadians of their livelihood is grotesque," he said.

"This is the worst type of corporate behaviour. But the government behaviour that is countenancing that type of corporate behaviour is even worse. The Conservatives should be ashamed of themselves."

Here's what the bank is claiming.

$1:
In a telephone interview with Evan Solomon of CBC's Power & Politics, Nixon added that of the 21 employees used by iGATE, six are local, 13 are from India but are only here to manage the transition and are not temporary foreign workers. Only one worker, he said, is a temporary foreign worker.

$1:
However, RBC employee Dave Moreau, one of the employees affected by the move and whose complaints sparked the story, acknowledged in an interview on Power & Politics that it may only be one temporary worker involved

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/201 ... rkers.html

So how the fek did this whole thing get this far out of hand and lead to a reaction that borders on the psychotic by some people?

I think a moment of quiet reflection would do everyone including Mr. Moreau a great deal of good. His story has caused untold problem that may not be justified.

They're claiming they're only coming to learn the jobs are going to be outsourced, not actually DO them while they're here. Therefore they're not really temporary "workers" at all.
They've already stolen the jobs, they're just here to learn them.

Fucking gobbledegook P.O.S. speak trying to make it sound like it's all okay because it's within the rules. Canadians still have to train replacements and end up out of work.
Moneygrubbing unethical sacks of shit.

The media, the net, whatever. It is full of downright lies and at best, half-truths.

That's why I tire of debate on these and other matters that come to 'public attention' these days.

So much utter rubbish masquerades as 'news' or even worse 'editorial comment'.

That goes for our national TV news broadcasts too.

In my line of work, I routinely see a simple line of truth on an incident quickly decay into a warped version of the original that bears little resemblance to the original.

Nothing is taken at face value anymore.

Everything is condensed to a twitter length quote, suitable to be digested by the masses with short attention spans and an inability to delve deeper into a topic.

Wiki-brains served by a twitter-media.
