Really they should hand those things out in high school. Just show various gruesone dead people pix with the warning that "If you have a child, this is how it will end up."

That won't work. Most high school kids these days would go out and buy the cigarettes just to collect all of the disgusting pictures.

I've had both parents die from smoking related illness. The images on the packages can't possibly convey what that is like. Images can't describe watching someone you love, slowly and painfully die. And there is nothing you can do to help.

If anything they are not nearly graphic enough.

Meh. I don't think they're as bad for you as they say, myself. That way they can charge more and make more money off them. A text warning on the package, a good education system to turn kids off it in school and we're good. If people want to smoke where they aren't harming others, let 'em. It's a free country.

I think if people want to smoke, they should have all information available to them. The package should read: "By putting this product to your lips, lighting the end on fire and inhaling, you will probabally die a slow and painful death in 10 - 25 years while your family looks on, with that time being reduced for every subsequent ocurrence."

My grandfather died of lung cancer at 71. Life long smoker.
My friends mom died of lung cancer at 52. NEVER smoked.

I'm thinking this woman in the video had an hereditary form of cancer that I doubt would not have come to light had she not smoked. I confused even myself here. I am pretty sure she would have gotten (lung) cancer had she not smoked.

Nevertheless, I am glad I quit 15 years ago.

Charge sales tax on Nicorettes and patches and quit smoking aids. Ban e-cigarettes because they might use nicotine. Force people trying to quit to buy packages of 25 or more.
And for God's sakes don't let any quit smoking aids be covered by your medical plan and make sure to start a groundswell to cut smoker's right off medicare. I mean SHIT they don't pay a nickel in extra taxes, why should they get cancer treatment for free?
Follow it all up by making Charter Rights for junkies, criminals, AIDS carriers and people who can only gibber like a coyote and dress in gunny sacks. Then you can discriminate against smokers and fat people legally.

Wait a couple months. On week 5 of 8 of a Patch routine. Not entirely sure if I'll be done smoking for good afterwards, but I can at least see myself succeeding this time

Don't go off the high dose patches till "you're" ready. I tried it their way and ended up smoking as soon as I went to the lower dose. But, after reading an article by the Ontario Medical Association that said stay on the patch as long as you need to because it's still better than smoking. I tried it.

I stayed on the high dose patch for 2 months and the medium dose patch for 3 week and when I went to go down to the low dose, I forgot to change the patch over one day and discovered I didn't even need it.

So good luck and like I said. Stay on the patch as long as you need to.

Trouble is, teenagers are bulletproof and there's very little anyone can do to scare them about what might happen 25 years down the road. And is the lady in the video's name really Tarbox?

I am pretty sure she would have gotten (lung) cancer had she not smoked. It's all about risk and statistics. People have difficulty comprehending statistics when the numbers get very small. Some people are predisposed, some not. But we ought to be vigilant in our attempts to make people understand that, whatever one's predisposition to lung cancer, those odds increase significantly the more/longer you smoke. Brenda Brenda: Nevertheless, I am glad I quit 15 years ago. I wised up about 10 years ago. And I knew better long before that.

So far so good, almost halfway through Step 2.

I quit some 5 years ago after almost 30 years and feel 100x better for it. It is tough to do but if you want it bad enough you will prevail. Good luck and hope you succeed.

DrCaleb, i'm very sorry to hear of the death of your parents, sounds like it was a pretty rough experience for you ... ... you've said the images on cigarette packages are insufficient for smokers to feel what it was like for you to lose your beloved mother and father. my response to that would be, why would you want to subject the general public to your personal emotional pain. it's not like smokers are a bunch of morons. the adverse health effects of smoking are well known and are common knowledge. hammering the point home isn't necessary. and neither are obscene images on cigarette packages ... ... the picture of the diseased tongue on the cigarette pack i saw lying on the road was so graphic i wouldn't even post it in this thread. i could, it is available online, but i wouldn't want to gross everyone out ...
