Three Toronto city councillors are now expressing concern over Mayor Rob Ford’s alleged problems with alcohol, saying they have witnessed or been confronted by witnesses to the mayor acting as if he is intoxicated.

But as the Ford camp made denials up and down City Hall, other media outlets say they have heard from staffers who have confirmed the Star’s story, and now three city councillors have gone public with their concerns.

Ainslie says in the email that he approached the mayor and found him “somewhat incoherent” and he told Ford’s chief of staff that it would be a good idea for Ford to leave.

The National Post doesn't give up its source either, nor does any credible news agency.

Mind you, “somewhat incoherent” could mean a few things besides drunk.

Since when? That's not how journalism works. If sources were revealed by newspapers, no one would talk to reporters. How would that be good for society?

In an email Tuesday to fellow members of the Garrison Ball organizing committee, Ainslie explained how he took action that ended with Ford being asked to leave the Feb. 23 gala.

Ainslie wrote that he was “approached by at least eight people who were concerned about the Mayor’s state.” Ainslie said he went to speak to the mayor, found him “somewhat incoherent,” and told Ford’s chief of staff, Mark Towhey, “I think it would be a good idea for the Mayor to leave.”

Six members of the organizing committee for the Garrison Ball have penned an open letter suggesting that Mayor Ford was never asked to leave the event.

The letter was released Tuesday night following the publication of the story.

The story quoted several unnamed organizers and guests as well as Coun. Paul Ainslie, who said he asked the mayor’s chief of staff to encourage Ford to leave the event.

“As a civilian member of the volunteer organizing committee of the 2013 Toronto Garrison Ball, I can confirm that I did not ask Rob Ford, Mayor of Toronto, to leave the event on February 23 for any reason,” the letter states. “To my knowledge, no member of the event’s organizing committee, including Councillor Paul Ainslie, directed the Mayor to leave the event that night.”
