Of course you would, you don't like Ford and have ignored the multiple sources that have publicly denied the story using their actual names including the organizers of the event.

Not true. I do like Ford. I think he'd be a lot of fun to hang out with.

Did the National post use 12 anonymous sources to claim the mayor was tossed from an event because he was drunk?

The National Post doesn't give up its source either, nor does any credible news agency.

Why not comment on the other points of the article...

$1:
Three Toronto city councillors are now expressing concern over Mayor Rob Ford’s alleged problems with alcohol, saying they have witnessed or been confronted by witnesses to the mayor acting as if he is intoxicated.

But as the Ford camp made denials up and down City Hall, other media outlets say they have heard from staffers who have confirmed the Star’s story, and now three city councillors have gone public with their concerns.

Ainslie says in the email that he approached the mayor and found him “somewhat incoherent” and he told Ford’s chief of staff that it would be a good idea for Ford to leave.

Duh.

Besides quoting 3 councilors directly? The entire point of the article entitled:

Three councillors now claim Rob Ford has a drinking problem as Toronto mayor is encouraged to seek treatment

If he has a problem with alcohol, that's fine and something he'll have to deal with.

We're discussing the allegations that he was removed from an event because he was drunk.

What about Ainslie' email saying that he approached the mayor and found him “somewhat incoherent” and he told Ford’s chief of staff that it would be a good idea for Ford to leave?

Mind you, “somewhat incoherent” could mean a few things besides drunk.

Based on Ford's size, I wonder if he isn't suffering from mini strokes or diabetes. Both conditions can make the sufferer appear intoxicated and incoherent/confused at times.

He reminds me of a boss I once had. Great boss, never appeared drunk, but drank all the time. Alcohol killed him at 46. :(

Precisely. It meant something different to him when far more people disagreed and said he was fine and wasn't asked to leave the event. So do we believe the one guy who said he was asked to leave or multiple other people that have put their name on the story?

C'mon now, for a story like this to be credible people should be willing to put their name on it.

Since when? That's not how journalism works. If sources were revealed by newspapers, no one would talk to reporters. How would that be good for society?

Nope. Not how journalism works. You get anonymous sources to point you in the right direction, then you get back-up. Sources can and should be protected where they're in danger or even just unwilling to be named, but then you need other proof. Particularily in a case like this where a public figure is possibly being attacked by people have something to gain by making him look bad. You have to look for possible motivations and ask yourself why people wouldn't be willing to put their names on these allegations.

Personally, from the little I know about the man I wouldn't be in any way surprised to learn he has probems with alcohol, but it's also clear from even casual reading of the Star that they have an axe to grind.

You need independent confirmation to run a story. That's been the newspaper golden rule since forever.

The Star definitely has an axe to grind, but Ford's offering up the sharpening wheel all on his own.

Rob Ford: Ainslie email details what happened at Garrison Ball

...

At least eight people approached Toronto Councillor Paul Ainslie with concerns Mayor Rob Ford was impaired at a military ball.

Councillor Paul Ainslie, pictured at an executive committee meeting, is a Ford ally on council.

In an email Tuesday to fellow members of the Garrison Ball organizing committee, Ainslie explained how he took action that ended with Ford being asked to leave the Feb. 23 gala.

Ainslie wrote that he was “approached by at least eight people who were concerned about the Mayor’s state.” Ainslie said he went to speak to the mayor, found him “somewhat incoherent,” and told Ford’s chief of staff, Mark Towhey, “I think it would be a good idea for the Mayor to leave.”

Six members of the organizing committee for the Garrison Ball have penned an open letter suggesting that Mayor Ford was never asked to leave the event.

The letter was released Tuesday night following the publication of the story.

The story quoted several unnamed organizers and guests as well as Coun. Paul Ainslie, who said he asked the mayor’s chief of staff to encourage Ford to leave the event.

“As a civilian member of the volunteer organizing committee of the 2013 Toronto Garrison Ball, I can confirm that I did not ask Rob Ford, Mayor of Toronto, to leave the event on February 23 for any reason,” the letter states. “To my knowledge, no member of the event’s organizing committee, including Councillor Paul Ainslie, directed the Mayor to leave the event that night.”
