I can see a Raccoon coming to Thunder Bay from Minneapolis as it is a regular shipping route but a Possum in Nipigon who knows where that came from.

You and me are probably the only ones on this site that even know where in the hell Nipigon even is! XD

I do too! Maybe they hitched a ride with folks off on a fishing trip. In fact I think that once you accept the fact that they can hitch rides on vehicles they could wind up anywhere humans do. They are small, could conceal themselves well and probably go for days without food. Once they get to a new location it would be a considerable length of time before anyone would notice they were there.

Yeah Winters are getting warmer and new critters are moving in like Raccoons and Tics which where never heard of before in our area.
They say tics can hitch a ride on birds like crows which means they can move like stink and aquatic species like gobies can easily be transported by humans while fishing.
I can not see a Possum surviving in Nipigon pretty sure the critter would winter kill only time will tell but like you say it would take a considerable length of time before anyone noticed.
Nipigon is also a small place where most locals have never seen a Possum and being a small town it goes unnoticed which is not allways a bad thing. lol! [B-o]

Woodticks will do well in ontario. They've been in southern Manitoba for years and it's a lot colder there than in southern Ontario. Some years thatey were so bad that vets had to be brought in to treat horses and cattle. They use to hang like grapes off of our dog. He'd sit there and i'd pull them off(no they don't leave their head burrowed under your skin when pulled off...that's a myth, as they latch on with their mouth parts) and crush them. Some were as big as the end of your thumb.

Yep Woodticks are doing well in the Thunder Bay area.. it's hilarious to see people freak out running around yelling "Get it off"..."Get it off"..when they get their first tick.
Most of the ticks in the Thunder Bay area are Woodticks but Deerticks carrying lime disease have been documented in our area.
I was pretty disgusted when I saw my first Woodtick but now I more or less just think of them as being no more disgusting than any other blood sucking insect! lol
