Wow. Sounds like Carcross was lot more similar to Carcosa than I originally imagined. 8O

Zipperfish Zipperfish:

One of my favourite Canadiana songs!

And the black flies, the little black flies,
Always the black fly no matter where you go;
I'll die with the black fly a-pickin' my bones,
In North Ontar-i-o-i-o, in North Ontar-i-o.

My daughter is canoeing through Algonquin Park as I type, right at the height of the mouche noirs season.

Gawd, I hate Black Flies.

The dunes and beach at Carcross are really nice. Apparently, they pulled a complete B-17 out of that lake, that made a forced landing on the ice while trying to fly to Russia on the Northwest Staging Route.

You went too early in the year! The summer in the Yukon is feckin' glorious! (if a tad short)

I had never seen a "Real Canadian Superstore" before and it's nice to know that someone's ripping off Wal Mart! [B-o]

I thought you would've seen one in your Canadian travels previously, they're everywhere.

Otherwise, welcome back! Looking forward to pics.

I've shopped in that very store in Whitehorse!

(It's called "Loblaw's" in this part of the country.)

Yes, it's how you know you are on a First Nations Reserve. Sad, but true. 2 cars, 1 with no wheels, and at least one fridge/freezer combination are required by Indian tradition. :(

Yup, I went to Cherokee in North Carolina a few years back and saw the exact same thing.

What, no Watson Lake stop?? Bart are you saying them Yukon bloodsucker's are worse then the famous man eating Blood Sucker's of Louisiana??

"Yup, I went to Cherokee in North Carolina a few years back and saw the exact same thing."

Sadly it is the same if your in Northern Wisconsin on the Res. It's the only way you know your on the Res other then Bar Fighting and Casino's. Strangely enough in NE WI Res they still fly the Quebec flag over the WI flag lol. I guess NE. Wisconsin still loves it's strong Quebec Historical roots somehow, but don't speak french or it's War!!

Bart glad you enjoyed your Yukon trip. I was only there on a stop over to Yellowknife. Thank Goodness Air North has better food then the Airport lol.

Welcome back, Bart! If you are ever headed up that way again let me know. I go there about three times a year on business, and I can generally pick my times.

Stupidstore has been around longer than Wal-Mart actually, at least in Canada. There were simply massive grocery stores until Wal-mart came up here in 1994 - then they started selling clothes, lawn furniture and everything else to try and maintain their market share.

BartSimpson BartSimpson:
Whitehorse has a lot of white people. By white I mean the color! I have never seen so many pale skinned folks in my life! No one there gets any sun!

If you would have stayed a little longer, you probably would have had a taste of the Midnight Sun and you wouldn't think they don't get any up there.
