meh, OT Loss. They played pretty well considering it's a back to back, but they need Wins.

Yeah, especially since Phoenix won tonight, putting them 5 points up on us with a game in hand, they also have a better schedule over the next 5 games while the Canucks are facing teams who have already made the playoffs...

Vancouver vs Anaheim

Image

The Vancouver Canucks will try to keep their slim playoff hopes alive when they begin a five-game home stand tonight hosting the Anaheim Ducks at Rogers Arena.

For the last little while the Canucks have known full well that they need to win pretty much every game they have upcoming and hope for some help from the out-of-town scoreboard in order to even have a shot at getting into the playoffs. When they only get their part of the job half-done as was the case on Thursday when they fell 3-2 in overtime to the Avalanche, it makes their task even more daunting. Still, all the Canucks can do now – to borrow from a tired cliché – is take it one game at a time and pray for the best. They'll try to collect two points from a Ducks team tonight that has had some recent struggles of their own.

While most expect the Ducks to be a Stanley Cup contender this spring, Anaheim appears to be stumbling their way to the finish line that is the end of the regular season. Anaheim has just four wins in their last 11 outings (4-4-3) with their most recent two victories coming against the bottom-feeding Panthers and Flames. They dropped a 4-3 overtime decision last night in Edmonton. Tonight marks the fourth of five meetings between the Canucks and Ducks this season, and the first of two times the Ducks will visit Rogers Arena between now and the end of the regular season. Anaheim has won all three previous meetings so far in the season series including pounding the Canucks 9-1 in their last head-to-head battle back on January 15. Vancouver, already without blue-liner Chris Tanev, will likely be minus another one of their top defenders tonight in Kevin Bieksa. Bieksa suffered a leg injury in Thursday's loss to the Avs and is doubtful against the Ducks. The Canucks re-called Frank Corrado from Utica (AHL) yesterday in anticipation of Bieksa not being available.

Oh well, we've got a decent fourth line for next year in the Sedins', and maybe if Kesler improves he can center the third. We just have to build a first and second.

Just kidding...kinda...maybe...

But hey, bright side, we'll draft higher than we have in some time. Good news bad news though, they say it's a lousy draft year, unless you get the first choice.

There are some interesting prospects coming up. Who knows, maybe we don't have to suck so much in two or three years...maybe.

Vancouver vs NY Rangers

Image

The Vancouver Canucks will host a rare late-season visit by the New York Rangers tonight at Rogers Arena as they try to stay alive in the playoff race.

When the Rangers make their lone visit of the season to Vancouver tonight, it will mark the much-anticipated return of a prominent former Canuck. And, no, I don't mean Raphael Diaz. All kidding aside, tonight's contest will see the most decorated coach in Canucks' history – Alain Vigneault – return with the Rangers. While this isn't AV's first time back at Rogers Arena – his Rangers lost a pre-season game here back in September – the storylines this time around are much more tantalizing. Vigneault, who was dispatched by the Canucks after a disappointing playoff exit last spring, has an opportunity to put perhaps the final nail into the coffin that contains the Canucks' hopes of just making it into this year's post-season. Vancouver begins play today sitting five points out of a playoff position while owing both the eighth-place Coyotes and the ninth-place Stars games in hand.

The Rangers are sitting comfortably in a playoff spot already and are looking to hold on to their spot as the second seed in the Metropolitan Division. They've been on a major roll lately as well coming into tonight's tilt having won six of their last seven outings including pummeling the Oilers 5-0 on Sunday. This is the second and final meeting between the Canucks and Rangers. New York easily handled Vancouver in their first meeting back on November 30 winning 5-2 at Madison Square Garden. Eddie Lack is expected to get his 17th consecutive start while Henrik Lundqvist, after getting the night off on Sunday in Edmonton, will likely get the call for the Rangers.
