Vancouver vs Los Angeles The Vancouver Canucks will try to earn two crucial points to stay in the playoff hunt tonight when they host the Los Angeles Kings at Rogers Arena. You can't help but think these days that there may be a supernatural force intent on keeping the Canucks in the playoff race until the bitter end. Losses by both the Stars and Coyotes earlier this week means tonight's game – mathematically, anyways – still has some meaning in it. If the slim playoff hope angle isn't enough to fire up the Canucks, how about the idea of playing for pride against a Kings team that has beaten the Canucks in all four head-to-head meetings so far this season? The closest Vancouver has come to knocking off Los Angeles this season came in their only other clash at Rogers Arena back on November 25 – a 3-2 overtime win by the Kings. The Kings come into tonight's game knowing that they are set as the third-place team in the Pacific Division with no possibility of moving up or down in the standings. Their objective now is to fine tune their game heading into the playoffs. They come into tonight's tilt having lost two of their last three games, including falling 2-1 to a potential first-round opponent in the Sharks on Thursday. Vancouver is expected to get team captain Henrik Sedin back in their lineup tonight as they look to snap their three-game winless skid. Henrik has been out since March 23 when he suffered a lower-body injury against the Sabres. Puck drop at 7 pm PT - Live on CBC

Vancouver vs Anaheim Future NHL Hall-of-Famer Teemu Selanne will play his final game in Vancouver tonight when the Canucks host the Anaheim Ducks at Rogers Arena. Had the Canucks been knocked out of playoff contention on their off day yesterday, the focus of tonight's game would have likely been on the visitors and the fact that Teemu Selanne, one of the most decorated players to ever suit up in the NHL, will be making his final appearance in Vancouver. But, as luck would have it, the Selanne-watch has lost a bit of its luster only because the Canucks are still very much focused on a potential playoff spot thanks to a loss by the Dallas Stars last night to Roberto Luongo's Florida Panthers that kept Vancouver alive in the playoff race to begin Monday. Vancouver, coming off a 2-1 win over Los Angeles on Saturday, technically needs to earn at least one point tonight to remain in the chase but, in reality, anything less than a win will do them no good. It won't come easy against a Ducks team that has dominated the Canucks in the season series winning all four head-to-head meetings to date. The Ducks, even though they've locked down a playoff spot a long time ago, are still playing for top spot in the Pacific Division which comes with the incentive of avoiding a first-round playoff date against the Kings. They seem to be choking a bit with their prize within reach as they come into tonight's contest having lost back-to-back games including dropping a 4-2 decision in Edmonton last night. The Canucks will get some good news on the injury front as blue-liner Yannick Weber, who was scratched last game with an undisclosed injury, is expected back in the lineup tonight. With the Canucks still mathematically in playoff contention, expect Eddie Lack to get the start for the 19th consecutive game. Puck drop at 7 pm PT - Live on Sportsnet Pacific

Vancouver vs Colorado The new Trevor Linden era for the Vancouver Canucks gets underway tonight when they host the playoff-bound Colorado Avalanche at Rogers Arena. It would appear as if the future can't get here fast enough for the Canucks. On Monday night, Vancouver dropped a 3-0 decision to the Anaheim Ducks and officially watched their playoff hopes go down the drain. On Tuesday, the team dismissed President and GM Mike Gillis and, 24 hours later, named former team captain and face of the franchise Trevor Linden as its new president. Tonight, the team – which includes the new man at the top in Linden - will begin the process of evaluating the players who could return to form the 2014.15 Canucks when they host the Avs, a team that appeared to be in disarray for the past few seasons but have rebuilt themselves into a legitimate contender this year. While points and standings mean nothing to the Canucks in tonight's tilt, they are still significant for the Avalanche who are not only battling for home ice advantage in the first round but potentially top spot in the entire Western Conference. The Avs are certainly are heating up at the right time as they come into tonight's game having won seven of their last eight games with their only hiccup during the stretch being a 3-2 shootout loss to the Penguins on Sunday. They were 4-1 victors over the Oilers in their last outing on Tuesday. Tonight marks the third and final meeting between the Canucks and Avs this season. The teams have split the first two games so far with each holding a home ice victory over the other. Jacob Markstrom is expected to get his first start for the Canucks since being acquired from the Panthers back in early March, while Semyon Varlamov will likely be between the pipes for the Avs as he looks to pick up his 41st win of the season which would set a new Avalanche single-season franchise record for a goaltender. Vancouver at Edmonton The Vancouver Canucks will hit the road for the final time this season to battle the Edmonton Oilers and Ryan Smyth, who is expected to play his final NHL game tonight. There will be plenty of emotion tonight at Rexall Place but, unfortunately, all of it will centre on Smyth, the longtime face of the Oilers franchise who is set to skate in his final game. As far as the Canucks and Oilers going head-to-head is concerned, this game is most likely going to be bereft of any feeling considering neither side has anything to play for with both teams getting set to watch the playoffs from the outside looking in. Not even the season series is at stake as the Canucks have already secured the victory having won three of the first four meetings to date. What both teams are looking to do tonight is snap their respective losing streaks. Vancouver has lost two in a row – most recently dropping a 4-2 decision on Thursday – while Edmonton has already suffered two consecutive defeats including falling 3-0 to the Kings on Thursday. The Oilers are closing out yet another disappointing campaign tonight that will result in a playoff-less spring for the eighth consecutive year. The Canucks recorded a 2-1 victory in their lone game played at Rexall Place so far this season back on January 21. Kellan Lain had his first career NHL goal in that outing while Zack Kassian notched the game-winner. Puck drop at 7 pm PT - Live on CBC

Hyack Hyack: As for next season.........at least we got Linden.....for what he may be worth. ....GO CANUCKS.... Classy move by the Canucks to come back out to shake Smytty's hand. Considering the Flames stuck around to do the same for Linden, I have a feeling he may have got on the phone and told them to show respect to a fellow union member. They may have just wanted to escape the spot light for a few minutes, but how ever it went down, it was a very nice gesture for sure.
