Definitely a great game but unfortunately, the refereeing left a lot to be desired, especially the missed penalty shot that wasn't called against the Canucks. The Canucks now embark on their longest road-trip of the season with back to back games Saturday and Sunday against Buffalo and New Jersey.

Canucks reassign 3 players to Comets

Vancouver, B.C. –Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has reassigned defenceman Alex Biega and forward Brendan Gaunce to the AHL Utica Comets. He also confirmed today that goaltender Jacob Markstrom has been assigned to Utica on a conditioning assignment.

Markstrom, 25, is returning from a hamstring injury he sustained on October 6th. Prior to the injury, Markstrom appeared in four preseason games for Vancouver, posting a record of 2-0-0 including one shutout, a 1.01 GAA, and a .962 save percentage. He appeared in three games with the Canucks in 2014.15 and 32 games with the Utica Comets, where he posted a record of 22-7-2, a GAA of 1.88, save percentage of 0.934 and five shutouts. Markstrom backstopped the Comets to the Calder Cup Finals with a 0.925 save percentage and 2.11 GAA through 23 games.

Gaunce, 21, has appeared in two games for Vancouver this season, making his NHL debut on Oct. 29 at Dallas and recording his first career goal on Oct. 30 at Arizona. He has also recorded two points (1-1-2) and six penalty minutes in five games with Utica this season. Gaunce made his professional debut playing with the Comets in 2014.15 where he finished seventh on the team in scoring, collecting 29 points (11-18-29) in 74 games. He also appeared in 21 playoff games for Utica, registering nine points (4-5-9) and 12 penalty minutes.

Biega, 27, has appeared in five games with Utica this season registering an assist (0-1-1) and two penalty minutes. He made his NHL debut in 2014.15, appearing in seven games and notching one goal as a member of the Vancouver Canucks. Last season, Biega registered 19 points (3-16-19) and 24 penalty minutes in 62 games, ranking second in scoring among defencemen on the Utica Comets. Biega also played in 23 playoff games for Utica, collecting four points (0-4-4) and 16 penalty minutes.

Vancouver at Buffalo

14

Ryan Miller returns to his old stomping grounds for the first time when the Canucks begin a season-high seven-game road trip with an early Saturday tilt against the Buffalo Sabres.

Twenty months after he was traded for the first time, Miller finally gets to play a game in the city he began his NHL career in. It will be a special, perhaps even emotional, affair for the Canucks' netminder but don't expect him to have a soft spot for his former team. Miller would love nothing more than to hand the Sabres a loss this afternoon not just for himself but because he knows the importance of getting this lengthy road swing off to a good start, especially with his team coming off a disappointing 3-2 home loss to the Penguins on Wednesday.

The Canucks are expected to make one line-up change today bringing Sven Baertschi back in to play alongside Bo Horvat and Jannik Hansen. Chris Higgins moves to a line with Jared McCann and Derek Dorsett, while Adam Cracknell comes out. This will mark the first time the Canucks face the Sabres with ex-Penguins coach Dan Byslma behind the bench. Byslma, at one point, was rumoured to be considered for Vancouver's vacant job two summers ago prior to the Canucks hiring Willie Desjardins. Buffalo is coming off a 4-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Thursday - a defeat that snapped their two-game win streak.

Here we go again with a dismal PP, the Canucks are now rated 19th in the league on the PP! At the start of the week they were rated #2 in the PK but, after Wednesday's game against Pittsburgh the team has dropped to 5th with a rating of 88.6%! The guys are definitely going to have to do one hell of a lot better in both categories if they want to accomplish anything this season!!

Damn, that hurts, losing the game with less than a minute to play. I hope the guys can regroup overnight as they play Sunday in New Jersey at 2:00pm PT.

Vancouver at New Jersey

15

The Canucks play game two of their seven-game road trip this afternoon when they pay a visit to the Prudential Center to take on Cory Schneider and the New Jersey Devils.

For the first time this season, the Canucks are coming off back-to-back games where they've failed to pick up at least a single point. If the Canucks want to avoid a third straight regulation loss – a second straight to begin their marathon road trip – they'll need to find a way to avoid the same third period defensive collapses that have plagued them in their two most recent outings. Yesterday in Buffalo, the Canucks valiantly clawed back from a 2-0 deficit only to surrender a heartbreaking goal with just 16.8 seconds left in regulation to lose 3-2 to the Sabres.

The Canucks won't reveal any line-up hints until the morning skate at the earliest so we'll have to wait and see who gets the call to face a Devils team that has won three of their last four, and seven of their last nine entering play today. All eyes figure to be on the crease for Vancouver as it remains to be seen whether Ryan Miller starts for a second straight day or whether the Canucks go with back-up Richard Bachman. New Jersey, barring the unforeseen, will start Cory Schneider against his former team.
