Tonight's game was the proverbial barn burner with a total of 13 goals being scored. With only 34 seconds left to play and Colorado leading 6-5 the Canucks had pulled Markstrom for the extra attacker. Elias Petterson scored his 2nd of the night, his 9th of the season, assisted by Horvat and Boeser, to tie the score 6-6 sending the game to OT. At 3:36 into the OT period Colorado took a slashing penalty allowing Vancouver's Derrick Pouliot to score the winning goal at 4:38 into the period, his 1st of the season. Vancouver is now 4-0 when scoring the opening goal and also 4-0 when going to OT! Boeser scored twice, his 3rd and 4th, Pettersson also scored twice, his 8th and 9th along with Loui Eriksson scoring his 1st, Marcus Granlund, his 3rd while on the PP and Derrick Pouliot scoring the game winner, his 1st while on the PP. The Canucks out shot Colorado 37-29 and held them to 1/2 on the PP with the Canucks going 2/4 while on their PPs. Vancouver will start another 6 game road trip on Tuesday when they play in Detroit. Tonight's win puts the Canucks into 1st place in the Pacific side of the Western Division and 2nd place overall in the League, although most teams behind us have up to 3 games in hand.

Vancouver at Detroit

16

Canucks (9-6-0) at Red Wings (4-8-2)

The Vancouver Canucks will be without forward Brock Boeser when they go for their fourth straight victory, against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday.

Boeser aggravated a groin injury in a 7-6 overtime win against the Colorado Avalanche on Friday, when he had four points (two goals, two assists), and rookie forward Elias Pettersson had five points (two goals, three assists) for Vancouver, which has scored 16 goals in its three-game winning streak.

Pettersson has seven points (four goals, three assists) in his past three games.

Tanev, hoping to return from a hip injury, will be a game-time decision.

Stupid groin injury.

Hope it heals good.

Loss in the shoot-out. Oh well, at least we got a point out of it. Not a bad start for this road trip.

Hopefully Boeser is back soon.

Young Canucks driven to 'win and prove people wrong'

Young stars are blazing a new trail for the Vancouver Canucks and defying the flagging expectations that loomed over the team heading into the season.

Fifteen games into the 2018-19 campaign, the Canucks (9-6-0) have chalked up wins against tough teams like Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh and climbed to second in the Pacific Division.

"We have a lot of guys in here that want to win and want to prove people wrong," said Bo Horvat, the team's 23-year-old first-line centre. "Everybody wants to prove that we can be a good hockey team that can step up and compete with anybody. And I think we've been doing that so far."

The Canucks finished second-last in the Pacific last season, out of the playoff race for the third year in a row. They also lost veteran superstars Henrik and Daniel Sedin, who retired at the end of the year following 17 seasons in Vancouver.

The team signed free agents Jay Beagle, Tim Schaller and Antoine Roussel in the off-season, but questions lingered about where the Canucks scoring would come from.

So far, the squad's top five scorers are all 25 or younger. Rookie Elias Pettersson leads the pack with nine goals and six assists over nine games.

The 19-year-old Swedish centre was named the NHL's second star for last week based in part on his eye-popping five-point performance in Vancouver's 7-6 overtime win over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday. He's now the youngest player in Canucks history to record five-plus points in a regular-season game.

Pettersson was also named the league's top rookie for October despite missing two weeks with a concussion.

Vancouver at Boston

Canucks (9-6-1) at Bruins (8-4-2)

Elias Pettersson will look to become the fourth player since the 1920-21 season to score at least 11 goals through his first 11 games when the Vancouver Canucks visit the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Thursday.

The rookie forward has 16 points (10 goals, six assists) in 10 games for the Canucks and can join Don Murdoch of the New York Rangers (1976-77), Rob Gaudreau of the San Jose Sharks (1992-93) and Teemu Selanne of the Winnipeg Jets (1992-93) as players who scored at least 11 goals in their first 11 games.

Forward Brock Boeser (groin), who was sent to Vancouver to see a specialist, will miss his second straight game for the Canucks, who are 3-0-1 in their past four.

The Bruins are 5-0-1 at home in their past six games, and 4-2-2 in their past eight games overall.

Canucks forward Bo Horvat has seven points (four goals, three assists) in his past 10 games. Markus Gudbranson has a career-high three-game point streak (three assists)

The Canucks will use the same lineup from their 3-2 shootout loss at the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.

You sure it wasn't Erik Granlund?

Just kidding. I'm actually genuinely curious. If it is Gudbranson that would be cool because last year no offensive contribution from the defense was considered a real problem.

This year Hutton has turned that around. If Gudbranson is contributing too that would be an added bonus.

It would also be good if Granlund was contributing to scoring again too. He had a good year two years ago then dudded out last year in the role of a defensive forward.

So who is it? Eric Gudbranson or Markus Granlund? I'm hoping Gudbranson but they've both been looking good to me lately, so it could be either.

Not razzing you Hyack. (Well maybe a little but just for fun.) Those two names are pretty easy to jumble though.

BTW, who else is worried the Boston bullies might be picking on the kid tonight.

Better not.

Hope Big Eric isn't too busy scoring assists and goals that he can't take some time to knock somebody like Brad (the Rat) Marchand out if he jumps Elias.

5 minutes left to play.

Gudbranson has a goal and an assist. Granlund has 2 assists.

[huh]

Bo made one where he did a spinarama with, then without, then with the puck. Turned the whole Bruins team inside out including the goaltender then snapped one into the empty net.

Byoootiful.

Oh...and 8 to 5 for the good guys.

The Canucks defeat the Bruins for the 2nd time this season, this time with an 8-5 score. The Canucks outshot Boston 33-28 and held them to 2/5 on the PP. The Canucks also went 2/5 on their PPs but also scored a SH goal, Bo Horvat's 9th of the season, Horvat also opened the scoring in the 1st period and also made 3 trips to the sin bin! Loui Eriksson also scored twice in the 2nd period, once while on the PP, his 2nd and 3rd of the year. Ben Hutton scored a PP goal in the 2nd, his 4th, Antoine Roussel also scored his 3rd in the 2nd period along with Erik Gudbranson scoring his 1st, also in the 2nd. Jake Virtanen scored his 6th of the year in the 3rd period. The Canucks are now 5-0-1 when scoring the opening goal, the only blemish was the SO loss to Detroit on Tuesday which also brought their OT record to 4-1. The next game for the Canucks will be on Saturday in Buffalo, note the 10:00am PT start time!

And they were saying on the broadcast that the Canucks are the highest scoring team in the league right now.

From lowest to highest. That's something.

From what I see the highest scoring team is the Tampa Bay Lightning with 58 goals for in 16 games while the Canucks have 56 goals in 17 games.
