Loyalty counts for nothing and hockey culture means jack shit. Everything is based on using any means necessary to win a cup based on pride, hockey culture, history, heart and glory. How ironic.

You two should be bankers and leave hockey the fuck alone.

You should stick to being an asshat and getting schooled in history, loser. When you get a friggen' clue, give a shout, but for now, you're nothing more than stunned twit.

 You seem like a very depressed and lonely person. Life been hard and unfair, has it? Sucks to be you. In nearly every single one of your posts you come across as bitter and desperate for recognition.

This smells of projection and you reek of it, nothing. There's a village missing its idiot, go find it.

Again with the projection. I've seen your picture and i'm sorry about your parents being brother and sister and all, but at least you're melon is in the right place to hold the empty maw that you use for an intellect.

Sucks to be you.

Says one of this forum's biggest tools. Still smarting from getting your ass handed to you on history, huh, loser? Piss off and get a life.

Says the resident asshat. In nearly every single post you mash out you come across as a socially retarded, intellectually-challenged, uneducated dreg that needs an Internet forum to matter. I grant you relevance. Now you're boring me again, go find your parents and kick them in the face for your piss poor genes and mutant looks.

Troll off, dullard

I was hoping OPP would actually try and defend his idea that friendship and rainbows are job 1 of a General Manager as opposed to building a winning team. How's that Wendall Clark contract coming?

I was hoping OPP and the other insta-fans would explain Kubina's brain fart last night in the 3rd period that made it only a 1 goal game and gave Washington the momentum

M1....you can't be saying the Leafs have Insta-fans. They suck, I don't think there is even a wagon, let alone a band wagon behind them???

OPP is an insta-fan, but many in Leaf Nation (free admission) jump on the bandwagon when the team starts winning (as they are now), leave when it hits a slump and love every player no matter how crappy they're playing or how ridiculous their contract is. Many of them don't have a clue about hockey or the team's particulars, but it's popular and by extension, so are they (hence the bandwagon jumping)

You got to remember Leaf and Habs fans see themselves as the centre of the Hockey universe and it doesn't really matter how well or poor their teams are doing.

Hey, SportsMaster will tell you that one man's brain fart is another man's $5,000,000 "experience".

Sundin's been with the Leafs since day one. Instead of shitting your pants over revamping the team (good luck with that, it will take several years and Sundin will be gone way after that anyways) I consider it a good thing that a superstar considers Canada home when all too many so called "Canadians" are all too willing to move to the states and even no matter how much money they are paid, don't want to play in Canada anyways.

Hey, how about Lidstrom....Sakic....old foggies with the same team who have no intention of leaving yet, one person on Toronto is apparently the cancer of the team. Jeeeeesus. No wonder nobody wants to stay in Canada.

Forsberg? Out of any playoff contending team, he chooses Colorado who may or may not make the playoffs...fuck him eh?

You're shooting yourself in the foot when you're arguing Lidström, Sakic and Sundins sense of loyalty and then say fuck Forsberg (Rapid-mountains ;) ) becaus he's returning to the team he played for since he came to the NHL ('94 - '04)(Nordiques = Avalanche) and stayed with until they decided that he was obsolete.

Ok, tell me again how I am 'shooting' the proverbial self in the foot. What exactly are you arguing against?

Sarcasm, is your detector off?

If hockey was nothing but bussiness and no heart then of what worth is the Cup?

Firstly, I notice you've neatly dodged all of the pertinent and salient flaws in your argument. You haven't yet answered why, in the era of a salary cap, you would persist in granting huge contracts to underperforming and undeserving players. You've yet to address why the philosophy of having a GM play nurse-maid to potentially damaged player's egos is job number 1.

Both aspects of your glaring flaws culminate in you answering the question of why you wouldn't grant Wendall Clark a huge fat contract, for all his years of service, fanbase and "heart" he brought to the team.

But you dodged that question too. How telling.

And your question is bone-headed. The Cup is the goal of playing, not friendship, fun or learning about the magic of believing in yourself. Go back to Timbits hockey if winning it all isn't worth something to you.

My arguments? What exactly are "my arguments?". My first comment was adressing your and M1's "hockey is a business" bull. Teams come and go. a team wins the stanley cup and the year after they have less people going to the games? Why? NO fucking heart or soul. That's why.

Hockey is a business, you naive twit. Maybe if you followed the NHL (from Gretzky leaving Edmonton to expansion the lockouts and the new CBA) you'd know it's a business. Come back when you've got a clue, assclown.

Well, let's once again identify that you've consistently dodged answering the question of why (or why not) give Wendall Clark a huge fat contract? He's given you heart, soul, bone-crunching hits, points production and years of loyal service. How come he's not on the roster? Doesn't heart and soul count for something?

Nice dodge.

Here are your arguments:

$1:
Loyalty counts for nothing and hockey culture means jack shit.

You're trying to be sarcastic, but much like your analysis, you fail at that. What does loyalty count for? Your argument implies that loyalty is only exhibited by the team and not the player. If a player is underperforming with a massive contract, what player in the history of any fucking sport anywhere has voluntarily given back undue salary? Where's the player's loyalty to the team? They take whatever the fuck they can. So, you fail on the "loyalty" aspect by trying to make a GM's job one of granting contracts based on years service regardless of performance.

Hockey culture is another massively stupid argument to sarcastically put forth. This is the NHL, not Feely McLove League. Hard work, talent and luck get you to the Stanley Cup, not awarding fat contracts to underperforming players. Each contract granted to players for the wrong reasons robs a team of the ability to sign a worthier player. In the NHL, the culture is winning, not smiling and sharing feelings. You want Timbits hockey.

$1:
Everything is based on using any means necessary to win a cup based on pride, hockey culture, history, heart and glory. How ironic.

Here you have a mismash collection of adjectives that don't even belong. Who wins a cup based on "history"? What, because Dave Keon was the leading points man in 1967 we should keep on signing him again and again and again? Does the current roster of the Leafs require a Dave Keonesque character? What kind of horseshit requirement is "history"?

And speaking of unintentional irony, you list "glory" as one of the things the Stanley Cup is based on. Glory comes from winning dumbass. Not from rewarding underperforming players with massive contracts to suit their egos rather than their stats.

$1:
You two should be bankers and leave hockey the fuck alone.

Your next argument fixates on the idea that because I don't care a fig for the Leafs keeping on with idiot signings, like the likes of Bryan McCabe or God-in-Heaven-Above Tie Domi's old contract, I shouldn't be involved in hockey.

Guess what? JFJ got fired and is renowned as a total idiot for doing EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE PREACHING. He got cozy with players and it blew his already stupid judgement, and here you come along as a JFJ apologist, hell-bent on justifying idiotic ideologies unbefitting a GM.

Thankfully, Cliff Fletcher isn't you and the trades he'll make and the contracts he'll dump will clean up a sloppy, bloated team that doesn't stand a prayer in the playoffs. Once he rekindles the kind of team that damn near won the 1993 Stanley Cup, you can fuck right off during the parade because all your short-sighted After-School-Special Hakunah-Mattata strategy did was keep the Leafs in the Northeast basement.
