I'm not too concern about expanding the league to Europe - I doubt the owners would let that happen. I mean the Western teams would have to fly at least 12 hours to get to Europe. That's a bit excessive I think. I don't care how many millions they're being paid, as a fan, I don't want my team to lose because the players are tired from too much flying because some big head in New York thought it might be fun to play in Europe and show those Russians how it's done... :P

No, by expansion he ment creating a division in Europe with European teams. Don't see that ever happening but in the long run, you never know. Never underestimate the forces of globalization.

My problem with Bettman in this case (not sure if he's responsible, but I don't care, he pushed to have regular season games played in Europe) is that the tickets for those games were not offered to Ottawa fans living in North America. We were quite a few people looking forward to go and see the games in Sweden. We were just waiting for the tickets to go on sale - first thing we know, it's sold out and nobody knew they were even on sale.

I get that they were all happy and excited in Sweden, but they are not the ones who have been shelling out money year after year to keep the Sens in Ottawa. It got bad in early 2000, but people were still supporting the team. The fact that no one in Ottawa got a chance to buy tickets to see the Sens in Sweden for a regular season game infuriates me. I have no problem with pre-season games being played in Europe, but if you're going to have regular season game over there, just like any other road game, let fans in North America have at least the chance to be able to go. As a Sens fan, I don't appreciate that at all, and I'm sure Pens fans weren't too impressed either.

That sucks. That's just not right. Sens fans should have been alowed to buy tickets, of coars. If they were afraid that there would be an overrepresentation of north americans they could simply have limited the number of ticket sold to Sens and Pen fans.
You don't treat supporters like that and if it was me I'd want to see some heads rolling.

Good for Alfie though - I know he was really excited to go play there. It was on the front page of our paper pretty much every day since last week [B-o]

Ha ha! Cool! Yeah, he seemed very happy with the evening and I'm really happy for him. He's ment a lot for Frölunda and went home during the lockout and won the cup for us in -05.

Oh, I see - I tune out everything as soon as I see Bettman's name. But why on earth would he want to do that? Would players in North America have the choice where they want to play? Wouldn't that dilute the talent pool even more? Stupid Bettman

We thought they would be a limited amount of tickets for Ottawa fans here - we were quite disappointed about that. I don't think there would have been an overrepresentation though - going to Sweden is no like going to Florida. It's a tiny bit more costly ;) All my tourist dollars went to Ireland instead ;)

He's well liked in Ottawa now - wasn't always the case for many (not me, always loved him). I hope the negotiations that will happen this weekend will lock him in a contract so he finishes his career here.

Not necessarily. Let's say they expand the NHL with allready existing teams in Europe that has the capacity and the economy. This would twart the new Russian leauges plans on incorporating these teams into their league and it would weaken the Russian leagues standard and their position in Europe. They're already taking players from the NHL and vacuuming every league in europe for talent and even semi-talented players.
The NHL got real competition now with this Russian league. There's big money in that league and some real good teams aswell. They also manage to keep their talent pool intact and lures a lot of players back home.

No? How so?
Yeah, said that's how he'd like things to turn out and that he couldn't see himself leaving the Sens.
