STORM SHUTOUT BY BOBCATS

The Storm fired 38 shots at the Bobcats net, but couldn’t make any of them count as they fell 4-0 in Lloydminster.

Garrett Sheehan recorded the shutout for the Bobcats while Grande Prairie's Chad Carder made 29 saves at the other end.

“Their goaltender was very good,” stated head coach Mike Vandekamp. “Probably the best we’ve seen this year. And it probably wasn’t Chad’s best game.

“But we still gave up too many chances. We didn’t play well enough defensively to be in a tight game.”

Darren Kramer and Michael Heffner dropped the gloves right off the hop. Kramer won the decision, and both of them served five for fighting.

“We created a ton of chances,” said Vandekamp. “We just couldn’t find a way to score. I thought we out-chanced them. But when they scored that second goal on the power play … that was obviously a big goal.”

The Storm will now return home for a couple of days, then head to Sherwood Park to take on the Crusaders Tuesday. That’s a makeup game from early in November.

On the heels of back-to-back losses, the Storm responded in a big way Tuesday.

Held to just two goals last weekend, Grande Prairie racked up five against the Crusaders, en route to a 5-1 victory in Sherwood Park.

Darren Kramer notched a pair of markers while Zahn Raubenheimer and Dennis Rix each had a goal and two assists. Chad Carder made 21 saves, for his 25th win on the season.

“I thought we were pretty sharp,” said head coach Mike Vandekamp. “We gave up the one goal on a five-on-three … but other than that, we were good at even strength.

“We got lots of pucks deep tonight, got our forecheck going well, and our offence came back.”

ALL-STAR REPEAT FOR NORTH

The South Division jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but the North stormed back, scoring six goals in the third period to win 14-9 at the AJHL All-Star Game in Fort McMurray.

Grande Prairie's three forwards combined for seven points. Travis Dunstall had a goal and two assists while Zahn Raubenheimer and Dennis Rix each had a pair of helpers.

Also representing the Storm were netminder Chad Carder, who played the second period, and defenceman Matt Williams.

The All-Star festivities conclude with the AJHL Scholarship Banquet following the game, featuring guest speakers Jeremy Roenick and Patrick LaForge, along with $50,000 in annual AJHL scholarships.

Hometown Boys put up points as North downs South in the All-Star Game

By: Ken Trenton The four Fort McMurray Oil Barons who suited up for Team North made the hometown proud after the North earned a 14-9 win over the Southern squad at the Scott Safety AJHL All-Star game. North Captain Brad Stebner had a goal and three assists, forward Branden Gracel had three helpers, blueliner Mason Conway had two assists, while Markus Gerbrandt scored as well. All four Barons were in the starting lineujp, along with Spruce Grove netminder Vince Marozzi, and Lloydminster centre Brett Slobodzian.

The south jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead as Eric Slemp, Corey Campbell, Jordan Kwas, andCullen Bradshaw managed to beat Marozzi, who leads the AJHL in GAA and save percentage. Then Bryce Williamson of the St. Albert Steel got the first north goal of the game, followed by Slobodzian and Gerbrandt. Slobodzian finished the evening with the hat trick, while Spruce Grove defenseman Kodie Curran led the way with five points.

The banquet followed the game and was truly an outstanding evening. TSN and former MOB voice Dan O?Toole emceed the event had played a mock Sportscentre broadcast talking about the weekend and festivities. Edmonton Oilers President and CEO Patrick LaForge spoke and had the crowd at the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre laughing pretty hard. Then NHL legend Jeremy Roenick took the mic next and didn?t disappoint. He reminded the young all-stars to never give up, and keep following their dreams and goals. Roenick then took time to take some questions from the crowd. In true JR fashion, he was very blunt in his answers. One fan asked him why Patrick Marleau isn?t the captain of the San Jose Sharks, and Roenick was very forthcoming in saying that Marleau isn?t captain material. He even talked about Alexander Ovechkin?s goal celebrations. Instead of saying he should be more modest; Roenick says hockey needs more personalities like that. At the end of the day, Fort McMurray came through again hosting a truly outstanding all-star weekend.

Big game for the Grande Prairie Storm tonight They visit the league leading Spruce Grove Saints in yet another battle of the best two teams in the AJHL .....AT..... .

In a game that mirrored last weeks game in Spruce Grove, this week it was the Saints who carried a three goal lead into the third period only to have the Storm narrow the gap to only a one goal game. Same result as last week to..... .....3..........2 .

.....AT..... Big game for the Storm in Lloydminster tonight. With the loss to the Saints last night and Ft. Mac winning their game, only two points separate the two for second place in the AJHL North division. Ft. Mac plays the league leading Spruce Grove Saints, so a good chance for the Storm to regain their four point lead over the Oil Barons. .

Sure QBC, praise your Grande Prairie team. Although they are looking mighty fine. Man, I would love to talk some ''shit''. So in order to keep it civil, so yea, the Storm are decent but the Remparts are best eh!!! Have a nice day.

Well Pimp, unless the Storm move up to the CHL ranks, I guess we'll never know just who would be... There is talk here about trying to make the Storm a WHL team, so you never know...Might be a Memorial Cup meeting some day. Of course the Storm would win, but it would be a wild couple weeks of trash talk... ... I haven't seen any updates from you as to just how your Remparts are doing this season. And yes, I listened to your radio link. I knew the Storm were doing good from your posts. I figured that I would add a little spice to the thread eh!!! It's all in good fun my friend. As for posting pics, yea, I should do that, after all I went to some games but never took pics. These are good Junior games, no matter where they are playing or the league.

The Storms next opponent , the Sherwood Park Crusaders, are on a hot streak (8-1-0-1 in their last 10 games) and the Storm will be in tough on Tuesday night.

QBC QBC: For sure it's all in good fun...Junior hockey rules .... Had a few beers last night so was only having a bit of fun. Since I was not all so familiar with the AJHL, looked up the standings. Indeed, your Storms are doing very good. Only Spruce Grove is in the way with 40 wins. As for the Remparts, they were a bit better at the beginning of the season. They are still doing good, but they need to stay strong since there are some real good teams in the Q, like St-Johns, Victoriaville and Drummondville. Also, like you said, the Juniors is awesome hockey, and that in all of the leagues throughout Canada.

Sure a battle for second place in the QMJHL...Three teams with 68 points...only one higher at 79 and your Remparts close behind at 63.....could be quite the dogfight down the stretch. I hope your boys kick some butt Pimp!!!....

On a night were the Grande Prairie Storm did their annual Heart and Stroke Foundation fundraiser, that included a silent auction and frisbee toss, the Storm took on the St. Albert Steel. After a very tight checking first period, the game really opened up for the Storm as they skated to a very impressive victory over the Steel .....6..........3 Zahn Raubenheimer lead the Storm scoring with 3 Goals, 1 assist while Dennis Rix had 1 Goal, 3 assists, Travis Dunstal had 1 Goal, 1 assist Grande Prairie's first line was indeed their first line tonight. Rosie and I were treated to a pretty good game tonight. GO STORM!!! .
