Since the reports out of Oz were pretty nasty I decided to get a shot this year. Sort of glad I did. However there was a report on the radio this AM that said the shot may not be as effective as they'd hope against this years strains, which include the H2N3 strain.

Yeah it’s always a bit of a crap shoot with the flu shot. It’s always a based on last years strain and you never know how the next years strains will change.

Recent reports show if you got the shots on a yearly basis, even if you do come down with the flu it will be a much milder illness....

I just never got the flu, even when everyone around me was hacking out a lung and producing gallons of lung butter and sinus slugs.

The best protection against the flu is to buy big pharma stocks.

I haven't had any sort of respiratory illness, the flu or even a mild cold for over 20 years, I have also been getting my flu shots religiously every year without fail.

The last respiratory virus I contracted was in 90 or 91. It lasted for about a week and a half. I remember giving a seminar and I sounded like Bobcat Goldthwait going through puberty.

I got the flu last month, and as always, it turned into bronchitis. I had it for 2.5 weeks before it moved on. Now just less than a week ago, I picked up another bug. Started off as a sinus ailment, but might be turning into the flu AGAIN. I don't usually get back to back bugs. I always get my once a year bronchitis adventure, then I'm good for a while.

Argh.

I started getting the flu shot when it became mandatory in the Navy which. when you think about it is quite logical given that you've got anywhere from 160-240 people living in approx 366X42 feet of enclosed steel with a system that uses approx 80% recirculated air. A scenario that pretty much meant that if one person got anything everyone got it.

But, when I got out I went for a couple of years with no flu shot and had no problems. Then one year I got the flu and ended up in bed for over week so sick I thought I'd die. So, since that time I've gotten a flu shot every year and so far, knock on wood I haven't had the flu or if I have the symptoms have been so minor that it felt more like a mild cold.

So IMHO anyone who doesn't get the shot is playing Russian roulette because at some point their luck will run out and they'll end up being the really sick ones while the rest of us carry on.
