An article from the "Spiegel" English site... http://www.spiegel.de/international/wor ... 61406.html ... that is just as applicable to concerns in Canada. We have to smarten up when it comes to importation of Chinese-grown and processed food. Buy Canadian (or at least American) whenever possible. We're lucky to have a Mennonite farm not far away where we can stock up on garlic. I hate buying the Chinese stuff, which is all you get in the grocery chains now. |

Certainly isn't news. Same with food containers that aren't safe, etc. We're doing a twisted version of Lennin's "The capitalists will sell us the rope with which we hang them." Christ, now we're buying our food from them. A country that we still give foreign aid to because they have so much poverty. A country that needs food so badly they're buying up farmland in Africa to produce it. Next up, a smiling Harper and Wall telling us how great it is for Canada that China has invested here by buying up most of Saskatchewan farm land. Will they send the wheat to China for processing, or just import their workers, like they just did with "our" coal mines, and do it here? What the hell, we're selling our oil and coal companies to them, might as well make it a hat trick. |

I did ok in Slovakia for a number of years, most food was local, only Commie fertilizers and fallout to worry about. Running around the West though,  Gotta say it, most of the meat/chicken I saw in Wallmart in Victoria was...  Could never buy it, Thifty's at least looked better. And eggs everywhere really sucked. |

Gunnair Gunnair: Impracticable without a significant population drop. And a radical change in the labour force. A small farm doesn't run it's self. If you need to divote a large amount of time each day to running your small not very efficent farm you can not be a specialist. |

They have been buying everything in Africa they can get there hands on, cash money, no stupid strings like Human Rights to worry about. Thank about that for a second... the AFRICANS are raising food for the Chinese. Like they don't need some for themselves. Favorite countries for Chinese farms ? Kenya. Ethiopia. and ... wait for it... Sudan. |

Thankfully, things like XL Foods are the exception rather than the norm. I'd much rather trust Canadian/American foods than Chinese, Vietnamese, etc. Grow your own or get it locally, even better, usually. It's amazing how many things the Chinese are into, particularly in Africa. None of it bodes well, I don't think. |

Johnny. Take it from someone who packages the food you see in your supermarket, a lot of the products that "packaged in Canada" can still contain some products from China. Especially if you buy at places like Loblaw's. |

Several sections were bought by the Chinese to raise meat sheep. The RM was all in favour (jobs, jobs, jobs and increased trade in town). Now it appears all the workers are Chinese students and all supplies are brought in by truck. It appears the RM gets land tax and nothing else. Popular opinion appears to have changed!
