I thought Argentina would have a better team. Having a lot of fun watching Belgium right now. I'm rooting for England but they'll be in tough against Belgium--not that the game matters much, points-wise.

Here's hoping. Maybe Messi can co with him, rather then to Spain.

Lol, I really don't like Messi, which is separate from my equal distaste for Argentina's national soccer program.

Are you an England fan still bitter about ‘86?

Two beautiful goals from Argentina today. Messi's first touch off his left thigh was exquisite and what was Rojo doing so far up the pitch for the winner? It looks like most of the top players will make it to the knock-out stage which is for the best. Nigeria disappointed as usual.

There's no outstanding team at the moment. France should beat Argentina but the Argies are definitely looking more like a team now and they have many excellent players. Regarding Belgium, Lukaku is a lot more lively than he usually is for Man U and if he, Hazard and de Bruyne get on the same wavelength then England will be in for a rough ride.

Possibly, but I honestly don't expect the England/Belgium game to be any kind of barn burner. If anything, ti'll be like today's France/Denmark game where both sides were already through and rested most of their top players.

Yeah, there's even some talk that coming second in the group might be a better move:

Anyway Belgium will be a handful for anyone after the England match.

I'm pulling for Mexico!!! Two in five people in my neighborhood are from Mexico. If they get past Sweden today, the party is on big time!!! We probably do not have enough Modelo beer in the whole city to get us through tomorrow if Mexico wins. Viva Mexico!!! [B-o]

French fan, of all things, lol.

I have just always been rubbed the wrong way by how Argentina glorifies cheating and underhanded play, but are the first in line to cry when they feel slighted. I know, I know...football, but it is way more fun when you have a villain.

And Messi, I just never liked. Great player, but never the leader he needs to be.

Somebody had to step up in the absence of Italy

I wouldn't mind Belgium going far, as it would be a nice change. However, being of German descent, it's no secret who I'm rooting for.

Must say I’m not a big fan of Thomas Muller - great player but a drama queen on fouls and with a habit of accidentally on purpose knocking into players. He did it in the Swedish game. I wont miss him today.

The curse of the champions strikes again!

And they really have no one to blame but themselves. Apart from the dramatic winner against Sweden, the Germans were mediocre in every way. The players looked tired and uninspired. Some of the players like Muller and Khadeira plateued in skill years ago. Just like the early elimination of Spain in 2014 was the end of Spanish tiki-taka, this will be the end of the current German style.

8O 8O 8O

I do have to say that the level of parity being displayed is making it way more exciting then I thought it would.

Sic transit gloria mundi. Germany getting through the group stage was something you could rely on in an uncertain world. It seemed almost impertinent to ask them to do it. The ridiculous amount of injury time only added to what I presumed would be the inevitable. And then time ran out. Even Joachim Low’s frantic crotch grabbing, ass scratching and nose picking antics could not save them. As a wag said, don’t mention the VAR.

Now the post mortems begin and we are all experts. Good choices become bad choices. Leaving Sane behind looks like a mistake. It is said that he didn’t fit well into the current German system but he offered a different sort of threat from the other strikers. Not too many other teams in the world would have omitted him on current form.
