Well.....

Ok, lets look at the behaviour of two groups of soldiers then, one from jolly Sweden and the other from nasty old England.

The 3rd Battalion the Parachute Regiment in a 'pink panther'.

I tried really hard to find any decent image of the Swede's going into combat or looking even slightly warry.

No joy.


Took me 3 min's to find this picture:

No scarier than Ulster during marching season.


As your chaps there may take an APC to get some Coke to mix with you're drinks in deepest Khandahar, but you supposed 'vikings' are leaving all the real work to the Anglo Saxons.
Keep cowering with booze in those safe barracks while Canada, the Netherlands the US and UK do all the fighting and dying.

Wusses.


Fighting in unwinable wars has never been a Swedish trait.
Especially one as dirty as this one... There shouldn't be ANY swedish soldiers in Afghanistan. Do your own dirty work, Britt.
The current Afghan war has profit written all over it!
The onley reason we are there is to protect the civilian population from criminal elements and have been verry successful in doing so this far.
The other week they hunted down a gang lord, who had been harrasing the civilians in the area, and shot him dead. They have been in many firefights since they arrived so calling swedes "wusses" is pointless.. Calling English fans "Brutes" is a valid point.

You sit and diss the Brits as your own soldiers cower in Afghanistan. If you want to continue your racist behaviour, it won't go unchallenged.

The Swedes are doing none of the fighting and deserve none of our respect. Canadians as well as others have lost many brave men to ensure countries like Sweden don't have hordes of Islamic fascists killing it's women and children.

Carry on with you're groundless and equally mindless diatribes.
Your position is morally indefensible.
Don’t expect the real warriors to sit here while some racist plonker from a country that hasn’t gone to war in centuries tries to piss on the Western nations that are actually doing the fighting and dying.
We Canadians and Brits have a proud tradition of fighting fascists, not sitting there and counting profits until the war is over.

Why don't you post a few more pictures of Swedish troops anywhere but Afghanistan?

This would never have happened if this was a UN Peacekeeping force of course! Yeah right pull the other one. A UN Mission to Afghanistan would be identical to the current NATO one. An aggressive mandate, alot of fighting in the south of the country and all the 'soft' European nations cowering in the north of the country.

UN Peacekeeping missions for European nations is all about managing risk (that is the risk of one or two of your brave lads breaking a nail) in exchange for extracting the maximum amount of international prestige to pad your reputation.

Thats why when the actually dangerous missions come along like Somalia, Rawanda or the Congo, sadly because there is waaaay too much risk - so much that it outweighs the prestige gained - that nations like Sweden and co in Europe prefer to shift the burden onto nations like Bangledesh and Nigeria.

For gods sake, we're even letting CHINA take on UN Peacekeeping missions? That'd be like letting Hitler's Condor Legion keep the peace in 1930s Spain! And why? Because Continental Europe is too selfish and cowardly to do the job themselves.

But, y'know, thank god that they have enough wind to moan and whinge at the few western nations who DO take the risks and DO at least try to help out abroad. Where would we be without them.

Unfortunately there are many in Europe like OPP. Quite happy to reap the benefits of NATO and the US in protecting their way of life, from the Nazi's to the Soviets.
The Swedes benefitted from our resistance to Soviet aggression without taking any of the risk.

For this ingrate to slag off those who put themselves in harms way to defend our shared civilisation just shows the "me, me" society that was spawned in those countries untouched by war and unsullied by the sight of the war graves of our brave fallen across Europe and the world.

Those of us whom have studied European history are well aware of the fractured state the EU really is. An EU military unit without US involvement has been tried and has failed.

Who would want to be led by the French or the Germans? Maybe the Swedes?

Nobody in most of Europe is willing to make the hard choices that keep us free, except those nasty Brits and those crazy Dutch.

Actually I wonder why he even comments on a Canadian forum.
He has little understanding of Canadians and our culture and was obviously gang raped by a load of English Togger hooligans, which would account for his deep hatred for all things Anglo.

Britain and the U.S faught the Soviet Union did they? You were fucking allied to the Soviets during WWII! You let them take what they wanted as long as they faught your common enemies while doing so. Hypocrites! You favored one kind of dictatorship that were no better than the Nazis just to ensure your victory was made with as little effort as possible. You didn't give a shit about the little guys. Your conserne was that the balance of power would shift from the Anglo Saxons.

The onley ones who successfully faught the Soviets during the war were the Finns and Sweden aided the Finns in what way we could.

OPP, when will you realize that in fact there is such a thing as an "opposing force." When I say that I mean a bunch of people like say Hutu gunmen, like say Bosnian Serb paramilitaries, like say drug lords in Afghanistan who don't listen to reason from high minded and domineering European foreign policy whacks like Javier Solana.

Guys who continue on with mayhem and violence no matter how much talking is done at the UN or at alpine retreats where emergency summits take place.

Do you seriously think the violence and carnage in East Timor first after they voted for independence and recently would have stopped if we continued to just sit there and shake our heads disapprovingly while we held the ring for the paramilitaries to clean house and ethnically cleanse?!

Australian and British forces helped restore order to East Timor and police the agreement to make it a free country. But under your logic, that would not be a just war. It wasn't a UN mission, it came about after Australia leveraged severe pressure on Indonesia to allow them to send troops to East Timor and thus therefore according to you wouldn't be a "just war."

The "western nations" you mentioned were obviously Britain and the U.S and by "help out abroad" you were undoubtly referring to the war in Irak and Afghanistan. That was what I comented on.
