Post subject:  Italian Soccer Team

Once again we have seen the whiny antics of the Italian soccer team at World Cup 2006. During their game with the Ukranians, the Italians continued to put on quite the show with theatrical dives that would have scored well at Olympic diving competitions. The rolling around on the turf screaming in pain act is getting old. It is my opinion the Italians receive special training from Oscar-calibre actors when it comes to feigning injury. The way the Italians roll around upon the turf is disgusting. One would think they were dying.

I shall never forget the game against the Americans when one Italian player rolled around as if his leg had been amputated by an American player. The American player was carded. Suddenly the Italian player is miraculously healed! Not only that but within 5 minutes of the carding he scores a goal! Then to top this incredible recovery off he does a long victory slide along the grass! This after everyone thought the American had chopped this guy's leg off! Could the Pope himself have intervened perhaps by calling upon Providence to assist this woeful Italian player with his recovery?

How about the game-winning goal by that Italian striker in the waning seconds of their game against Australia? The Italian striker took a massive dive which resulted in a penalty kick. Amazingly enough, upon review of the replay one could see the Italian player clearly tripped over his own feet after jumping over the Aussie player. What is even worse would be the clear unsportsmanlike conduct of the Italian player after he scored on the penalty kick. He stuck his thumb into his mouth in celebration. The act was clearly referring to the fact he suckered the Aussies and the officials into making what he knew to be a bogus call. There is absolutely no doubt the entire world now hates the Italian soccer team as a result. They are clearly whiny bitches who squeal if they do not get their way, but when they do the "nyah nyah nyah I suckered you bitch" comes out.

Hopefully in future FIFA remembers Italy's childish antics and decides to ensure they never play another World Cup game ever. I for one would not shed a single tear.

All the teams are brutally guilty of this. To the credit of the US, they were the only team not to fall to the ground like they were shot everytime an opponent came near.

Shevchenko's goal against Tunisia is the one that bugged me the most. He very clearly slipped his own right heel behind his left heel and tripped himself. He scored on the penalty kick and then won 1-0. A play like that should be reviewed and he should be fined or suspended. Diving is an art that they must learn at a very young age. The Dutch player who was head-butted: it took him several seconds before he grabbed his nose and went down. Thierry Henry for France ran into an arm with his chest and went down clutching his face. Rooney for England barging through two players, falling down, and then screaming like a 2-year-old for a penalty.

Get over it. Play soccer. Real soccer. For 90 fucking minutes.

Although, as an Englishman, it would be good to see the Italians knock those sodding Germans out by cheating. And then the Frogs in the Final.

The American player was carded because he committed a foul, regardless if the Italian player had been injured or not. The American player did not make contact with the ball first. Take hockey for example. If a player fouls another, he receives a penalty. The player that was infringed upon in most cases is fine and continues to contribute to the game.

The Australian player was at fault. The Italian player clearly was fouled and a referee will call a penalty shot anytime a player fouls another player's run in the box. Again look at hockey for an example. If a player on a break away has a stick thrown at them from a chasing defense man, they will get a penalty shot. The Australian player knew better and should not have even tried such a move. As you can see in the video he got in Grosso's way and impeded his run, never making contact with the ball. Grosso did not trip over his own feet as you suggest.

Suckered the Aussies? No that's not why he did it.

"As the ball went in, as the San Siro fell into a hush, Totti instinctively sucked his thumb, a habit he started in salute to his newborn son last season."

Totti had been doing it in Serie A games, and he isn't the only player to ever do this.

I pray to God the Italians never win a cup ever again. Totti is a disgusting piece of ****!
I'll never forget the European Championship game in 2004 between Italy and Denmark where Totti spit on a danish player several times.
I couldn't find a clip of it to upload but it was beond unsportsmanlike. Disgusting, pure and simple.
He should never have been alowed to play again.
Feel like punching something when I think of those divas.

I remember that incident and I don't condone it. However, what was at issue was the sucking of the thumb, not what happened in 2004. You don't have to worry about seeing Totti anymore, last I heard he had retired from the national team. Even if he does play again for the azzuri, he is but one player. Italy is one of the best soccer nations in the world with some truly fine honorable players. A true fan of the sport appreciates Italian soccer.
