Canada is off to a great start at the Gold Cup, beating Costa Rica 2-1. The victory was fully deserved as Julian de Guzman scored two fine goals, the second absolutely spectacular to seal the victory. Costa Rica had taken the lead in the 56th minute only for Canada to level the match within a minute. The final half hour was played in Costa Rica's half.

Costa Rica has qualified for the World Cup out of CONCACAF the past two tournaments and is considered to be a dark horse to win this tournament.

The Gold Cup has been played eight times. Mexico and the USA have dominated the tournament, winning every title except one when Canada was champion in 2000.

Canada defeated Haiti 2-0 tonight in Miami. It was a sloppy affair, but after the stunning 2-1 loss to Guadeloupe on Saturday, we'll take it. Dewayne DeRosario scored both goals in the first half, the first off a very tight angle and the second on a penalty.

Canada finishes atop its group and heads to Foxboro where they will play in the quarter-final on Saturday against the second place team in Group B, most likely either Guatemala or El Salvador.

I bought a Canada Soccer/Football jersey yesterday, me likes.
I might pick up a Toronto FC one before i leave Toronto as well.

Canada hammered Guatemala today, 3-0, in a display that has been as good as I've ever seen the national team play.

Now, its on to the semi-finals against the US. Canada will probably lose, but you never know. That's why they play the game!

Canada lost to the US tonight 2-1.

However, Canada appeared to have tied the match when Atiba Hutchison scored in the fourth minute of extra time at the end of the match. However, the linesman ruled Hutchison offside when he clearly was not. That seems to be Canada's fate in CONCACAF.

However, Canada was just as good as the US, and the US and Mexico are the two best sides in the confederation. This is the best Canadian side in some time, and one that has a real chance at qualifying for the World Cup in 2010.

Canada should be proud of her side.

Yup. It was a good run and as usual dodgy refereeing cost us.

FYI

This is the snapshot of the pass which was ruled offside. Atiba Hutchison is the player at the top of the picture level with the American defender. The ball was played by an American defender into the path of Hutchison who scored and was incorrectly ruled offside.

The linesman said he thought the ball was played by Canadian striker Ian Hume, who is the second Canadian player from the top when, in fact, it was played by the American player marking Hume.
