I agree. So far the Canadian Olympic choking team is out in full force again. So pathetic.

Time to start sending people who actually want to try, and get these others off of the public dollar. As it seems they're only there for a free vacation.

I don't want to see any more money going to this Jeremy Wotherspoon choker.

and this is hardly possible as well... sports is not what it was in the first half of the 20th century, it's all money and politics now! THIS WORLD SUCKS!!!

I'm not going to disrespect our Canadian squad representing their country (no I'm not going to mention least of all that nobody wanted to carry our flag) and it is still early in the olympics but I am a little bit dissapointed. No medals except for the Slalom and some speed skating event even though Klassen was clearly in the run to win better than a bronze. Gold medal favourites finishing last? This is the winter wasteland that so many countries recognize us as right? We should be the dominating ones and kudos to the other nations for their hard work and effort but it still amazes me that smaller countries like Norway seem to dominate, just like Australia in the summer games. Again it's early in the games but with the US, Germany, and even China, heck even Korea pumping out medals by the dozen a day, I fail to see how our projected quotas will be met. What was the goal this time, third overall?

Scary crashes and falls mar third day of competition at Turin Olympics http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/torino ... &type=lgns

Several athletes were injured in frightening crashes Monday (February 13th) at the Turin Olympics:

WOMEN'S DOWNHILL:

-- Lindsey Kildow: American gold medal contender fell on her training run. She was taken by helicopter from San Sicario to a Turin hospital with a severely bruised left hip.

-- Carole Montillet-Carles: Defending Olympic champion lost control during a jump midway through her run, slamming into the protective fencing. Montillet-Carles, of France, was taken to a clinic in nearby Sestriere with rib and back trauma and minor facial abrasions. X-rays were negative.

-- Allison Forsyth: Canadian racer crashed and was taken to Turin, where an MRI showed she had torn a ligament in her left knee.

-- Elisabeth Goergl: Austrian fell but was able to ski down on her own.

LUGE

-- Samantha Retrosi: American was carried off on a stretcher and taken away in an ambulance after slamming into the wall on the second run of the Olympic competition. She appeared unconscious as she slid underneath her sled through at least two curves, and a large drape was pulled across the curve where she stopped, shielding her from view. Retrosi had a concussion and short-term memory loss and was taken by helicopter from Cesana to Turin.

-- Several other lugers crashed on the first day of the women's event, including Italy's Anastasia Oberstolz-Antonova, who was expected to challenge for a medal. Czech slider Marketa Jeriova wiped out in the opening round, and medal hopeful Natalia Yakushenko of Ukraine didn't start her second run after banging the wall hard and hurting herself in her opening heat. Canada's Alex Gough and Slovakia's Jana Sisajova also had near-disasters -- Sisajova came off her sled in a turn and lay on the ice for several seconds before climbing over the barriers apparently unharmed. Argentina's Michelle Despain bounced off the walls repeatedly in both of her runs -- she struck concrete at least six times on her second.

-- Anne Abernathy: Slider known as "Grandma Luge" withdrew because of a broken wrist. The 52-year-old Abernathy crashed Sunday during a training session and was taken to a hospital. She made her Olympic debut for the U.S. Virgin Islands in 1988.

SNOWBOARDING

-- Melo Imai: Japanese star was carried away on a stretcher after injuring her lower back during a qualifying run. Imai collapsed in the center of the halfpipe after failing to land cleanly from a flip and spin combination, smacking her board and body into the lip. She briefly slipped in and out of consciousness before being flown by helicopter from Bardonecchia to Turin.

FIGURE SKATING

-- Phyo Yong Myong and Jong Yong Hyok: North Korea's only skaters in the pairs final withdrew after Phyo was injured in practice. Phyo fell on a throw move and crashed into the boards at the training rink.

Me too.

I'm surprised she was able to return to the ice so quickly, never mind land every other jump.

The woman is amazing.

if it was only a ligament she injured she could keep on skating, pretty painful, but possible if the joit is ok and i'm sure it is ok. What are they all for if not to overcome? They do it for years every day. By the way, I think this pair didn't deserve silver. Sports should be fair! yes, she skated injured but it was her desicion and finally they were not good enough for silver! the moral: if you are not sure you can do it, than just don't do it! this is Olimpics! Judges suck!

i just meant that sports is not about compassion. if they gave a medal for the will to win i would have given her the platinum one!
but they made two mistakes jumping, they also had few blots in steps and HIS spin was far from perfect. The new scorring system let them be the second. Perhaps it is my problem that i cannot get used to this shitty unnecessary and IMHO negative changes.
but do you know how many athlets skate injured? and what kind of injuries they have? when they skate the whole tournament with torn ankle ligament, when they skate a huge fuckin bunch of tournaments with the kind of desease that causes pain while walking, while lacing up their shoes even, with very serious concussion of the brain... One doesn't deserve the medal just cause millions SAW the fall. And i do feel sorry for her!
