South Korean fans shower Canadian skater with threats, abuse after Olympic controversy
$1:
The results of the women’s short track speed skating 500-meter final at the 2018 Winter Olympics were a story by themselves. Italy’s Arianna Fontana, who entered her fourth Olympic Games with five medals but no golds, finally stood atop the podium.

But the photo finish that handed her victory wasn’t even the most dramatic aspect of Tuesday’s race.

South Korea’s Choi Min-jeong, the 19-year-old home-crowd favorite, barely lost out to Fontana. But the teenager’s skate was at worst admirable, and at best heroic despite defeat. A silver medal on home soil was something to be proud of.

But race officials didn’t just take their time reviewing the photo finish. They deliberated for a while before deciding to disqualify Choi for interference. The Korean crowd, which had been chanting Choi’s name, fell into stunned silence.

And then disbelief turned to anger. Why had Choi been penalized, especially if she was the one who had seemingly been pushed by Canada’s Kim Boutin earlier in the race?

America's latest hero is Shaun White, who won another gold in snowboarding. He also settled a lawsuit last year from the former female drummer in his crappy band that he has on the side and that's because when she was seventeen years old he kept texting her photos of giant cocks and clips from scat-porn (don't look it up unless you have a strong stomach).

The lesson is, that no one seems to learn, is don't make heroes out of people in sports. It's just setting yourself up for disappointment when they invariably turn out to be the most rancid individuals you could ever meet.

I’d hate to be reffing that short skating. There are so many possible offences.

Are they really that much worse than the rest of us? We should think of them as victors in the Ancient Greek sense rather than saints, prone to all the usual vices.

Here’s the sad story of the world’s first free agent:

Gotta wonder about the Trump household right now seeing as Slovenia beat the US, 3 - 2 in men's hockey. Picture Melania saying in a heavy Slavic accent,'Bite me baldy!'

And the Canadian women win 2 - 1 over the Americans. Ended in a North American fashion too [hockey] . I think they could intimidate some of the European men's teams.

Canadian Gals Kick Ass!

The Canadian women's hockey team just beat the USA 2-1 to finish 3-0 in the Preliminary Round.

A good intense game to watch.

Our womens curling team had better get their collective heads out of their collective butts because one more loss and they're likely on the outside looking in. Bad decisions and poor shot making led to this debacle.

Canada's Duhamel and Radford close Olympic career with pairs bronze

Image

$1:
GANGNEUNG,, Korea, Republic Of -- It was likely the last competitive skate of their outstanding careers, and when Canada's Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford struck their final pose over the Olympic rings at centre ice, Duhamel collapsed on one knee and cried.

It was sense of fulfillment eight years in the making.

Duhamel and Eric Radford captured the bronze medal in pairs figure skating at the Pyeongchang Olympics on Thursday, in their Olympic finale.

"It's the sweetest (ending) it could possibly be right now," Radford said. "I don't think that there's any better way."

"I don't think there's been happier bronze medallists than we are," Duhamel said through a wide smile.

"We couldn't have asked for more from this competition and from ourselves," added Radford. "I think we're going to be able to retire and always look back on our skating career feeling complete and happy."

Skating to Adele's "Hometown Glory," an old favourite program they decided to resurrect just weeks ago, the two-time world champions scored 153.33 points, for a total 230.15, becoming Canada's first Olympic pairs medallists since Jamie Sale and David Pelletier won gold in 2002 in Salt Lake City.

Canada slides to silver in luge team relay

Image

$1:
Canada's luge relay team found Olympic redemption Thursday in Pyeongchang, South Korea, with a silver-medal finish.

Veteran singles sliders Alex Gough, Sam Edney, and doubles duo Tristan Walker and Justin Snith fell just short of the podium four years ago in Sochi, Russia, but made no mistake this time — posting a combined time of 2 minutes 24.872 seconds to finish behind the Germans. Austria was third.

The fourth-place result in Sochi had been bumped up to third in the wake of the Russian doping scandal. Two of the Russian foursome were among the athletes stripped of their 2014 results, but the Canadians were once again pushed back to fourth following the Court of Arbitration for Sport's recent decision to overturn the punishment for some of those competitors.

Earlier in the week, Gough claimed the country's first individual luge medal with a bronze in the women's singles. Edney was sixth in the men's event, while Walker and Snith finished fifth in doubles.

Canada's Ted-Jan Bloemen wins gold in 10,000 speed skating

Image

$1:

Canada's Ted-Jan Bloemen has won a gold medal in men's 10,000-metre speed skating at the Pyeongchang Olympics.

Bloemen put down an Olympic-record time of 12 minutes 13:77 seconds in his heat, good enough for first place, with two skaters to go.

One of those to come was Dutch rival Sven Kramer, one of the most decorated long-distance speed skaters in history. But Kramer's performance wasn't enough, as he finished in a distant sixth.

Bloemen won a silver earlier at the Games in South Korea, at the 5,000-metre distance, and was the world-record holder at 10,000 entering the competition.
