No offence, but the ''O Canada'' in the closing ceremonies was much better.

Congratulations to the Canadian mens hockey team on thier victory today. As an American it was not the outcome I was hoping for,but it was one hell of a game nonetheless.Even more impressive than the gold medal for mens hockey,is Canadas all time gold medal count for a winter Olmpics. The whole world expected Canada to take the gold in mens and womens hockey. No one expected a new gold medal record from Canada.
I have followed this thread from the beginning. There has been some remarkable changes in the tone from beginning to present. When the thread started there was reservation, and uneasiness.Posters were ridiculing "own the podium".Canada was upset about British press mocking the Olmpics.Posters seemed overjoyed with winning a bronze,or falling just out of contention for medals.I seen a few posts critical of my country for having the audacity to wave an American flag after winning a medal.I seen the word arrogant used to describe my athletes for winning.I was trying to find some free time to respond to those accusations.
Before I could throw my two cents in,something amazing happened.Canada opened a can of whoop ass.Canada was kicking ass and taking names. From unbelievable comebacks to complete domination the floodgate of gold medals opened up for Canada.I was witnessing some of the best athletic competion I have ever seen. The Maple leaf was being raised over podiums.I have heard O'Canada played so many times in the last week that it is stuck in my head like an advertizing jingle.I seen Canadian athletes wrapped in the flag, and waving the Maple leaf every chance they could.
Then I seen the world start to turn on Canada.Where were the polite modest unnationalistic Canadians?Didn't you know you that part of being a good host is letting other people win?You faced bullshit charges of execessive celebration. The world loves to knock a winner off of thier mountain. No one complains about the losers of the world.Whats the point? The tone on this tread changed. No longer was trying hard ok.People wanted gold, lots of gold.Canada was sticking thier iceskates and skiboots up the ass of the world, and you people were eating it up.You showed the world what Canada can do when everyone is pulling on the same side of the rope. You shocked the world, and gave us one of the best Olympics of all time.Winning can be very addictive, its like a drug, you want more.My question to you is this:are you going to keep it up?Now that you know how good it feels to kick the worlds ass,are you addicted? Are you willing to make the monetary sacrifices needed to stay at the forefront,or was this a one time thing because you were hosting the Olmpics? It is going to be harder to stay on top in the future. The world knows what you are capable of,you won't be able to sucker punch anyone. The money situation is up to you as a country to decide. As a fan of exellence in athletic competion I hope you stick with it.Sorry for the lack of paragraghs, problems with my keyboard.Congratulation on your many victories. We will see you in London.

Stephen Brunt, a columnist for the Globe and Mail, put together a remarkable video essay about the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Since I cannot embed the video from the source, you can watch it on the CTVOlympics website.
http://www.ctvolympics.ca/video/index.h ... 9493947e9#

"Cynicism is easy, so is retreating into historic grudges. So is looking at a world in which were once borders are dotted lines at best and believing it doesn't really matter what you call yourself or where you live. It does matter, or at least it can. It is important to have a shared history. There is power in the collective experience and admit it, it feels good. It feels good to let your heart show."
