“I think they are pushing it a little too much,” Australia’s Hannah Campbell-Pegg said Thursday night after she nearly lost control in training. “To what extent are we just little lemmings that they just throw down a track and we’re crash-test dummies? I mean, this is our lives.”

Very good question. Good epitaph too.

I see the IOC has already had the video pulled.

What, they think if no one sees that it never happened ?

Personally, I'm glad. Out of respect for the families and fellow athletes.

Euhmm... you don't HAVE to do this sport... There is a reason why I am not...
You choose to make a crash test dummy out of yourself if you want to participate in a dangerous sport. Don't start bitching.
It's bad enough this guy died, but excuse me, it IS the risk you take that comes with the sport...

I hope whoever gave the OK to build the fastest track in the world realizes they have blood on their hands.

Good grief, they were estimating they would hit 100mph during these games.

Bet the designer and builders are having a good day.

Is the luge track in Calgary still working ? ;)

I'm assuming the track was approved by the IOC for olympic competition, no one can forsee this kind of accident, though in retrospect (this isn't the first crash this week) it should be examined.

I don't think she's bitching. I think she's adding some much needed reflection on the whole thing. She won't win with that attitude, but she may go on to live a happy life instead.

Like all "speed" sports, athletes push to the limit.
Seems that sometimes, there's a very thin line between winning and crashing.
Luge, bobsled, downhill skiing and cycling will probably never be 100% safe.

And has been. Before the announcement of Kumaritashvili's death was made, they were already discussing potential safeguards/alterations that may be made today.

Every word true. As well, it's also up to the athlete to know their limits.

Neither is life. In fact it has a 100% mortality rate. How much you want to hasten that event is in small part up to you, but the rest is all Ins'Allah.

The moment that is your thought when you participate in a sport, you are in the wrong sport.

I think anybody who's not psychotic must have those thoughts from time to time. I certainly did in the back country, crossing an avalanche slope or jumping off some cornice. But it was just too much fun to quit. I've taken a good slide down a steep slope, with cliffs below, and started bargaining. First it was, I hope I don't get any bruises, then, i hope i don't break something, in the end it was just "i want to live." I walked away, and went right back up for another run. Maybe not so smart.
