Two Reasons for why bitching about the French component is Fail

1) Official language of Canada
2) Official Language of the Olympics(English being the other)

Fail

So we invite people into our home and then speak in a language that most of them don't understand. That's real classy!

FYI. I speak & read a bit of French, can understand a French conversation, and usually partake by responding in English. We get by. Usually though, if the majority present speak/understand English, that is the language of conversation!

Read what I posted. In China, Japan, S Korea, US, yadda yadda ya. French spoken in each and everyone of those Olympic Games.

Even the Chiefs showing up late for their own show didn't really adversely effect the overall performance but you have to admit the whales were cool and the bear was neat.

Actualy the reason the chiefs were late was because they were held up my the protestors outside the stadium. But they should have still been there much earlier like most people were.

My favourite part was the whole Celtic bit (I seriously love that crap for some reason) and the Canada rant bit which actually seemed slightly awkward and ended HORRIBLY. Like, play a song or something..

The only part I had any real issue with was simply the 4th pillar. Of all things to go wrong.

Opening ceremonies showcased some wonderful, awe-inspiring moments. I wasn't impressed with our National Anthem, although Nikki has a beautiful voice. As much as I enjoy opera, but the Olympic anthem was less impressive. The glitch with the inside torch didn't sway me either way. Overall kudos to the Olympic organizers.

It's an official event. You HAVE TO have Opera singers. Nobody likes them, you just have to have them.
Like brussell sprouts at Christmas dinner.... gulp a few down and praise the host's cooking, listen to the Fat Lady for three minutes and clap politely.

I just got home from the absolute crazyness all over downtown, mostly granville st and robson square. Headed to the streets right after watching the ceremonies and the fireworks over Canada place from my apartment. Never seen the city this alive and so much outward patriotism. There was a laser/fireworks/balls of fire show and then watched a free concert.

Not quite so exciting on the water.
