Post subject:  O-Zone/Heineken House get-together

As I have mentioned in a couple of Olympic-related threads I live within walking distance of all the hoopla going on in Richmond. Earlier today I mentioned in WDHIII's thread for any members heading for this area to let me know and we'll meet up. He suggested I should just start a thread about it so here it is.

Next Thursday (25th) another member and I have already made plans to spend the day there. We would love it if anyone else would like to join us.

I was there today and most of the O-Zone does not open up until 3:00 on weekdays which is dumb IMO. However, Heineken House was open and at 2:00-ish there was quite a line-up to get in. At 4:00 the line was 3-4X as long. So, I figure if we-re gonna go there, get there early! Hell, once in we may not want to leave!

There is limited visitor parking at my place and some street parking (both of which are easier to obtain early in the day) but I would recommend if you can to take transit. The Canada Line ends at Richmond Center, which is right there a block away from the O-Zone.

Anyway, let me know if you are interested! An Olympic CKA get-together would be great!

I'm technically supposed to be working that day, but there is a small chance I could make it out. I havn't been to the Heineken House yet, and I'm definatly going at somepoint.

That would be awesome! Call in sick or something. Heineken House opens at 9am. We are already figuring on having lunch there and hanging out. People I know who have been in there say it's awesome!

So Strutz, not to be disrespectful to your thread or anything.

I would love to go out there and meet you, but it is too far away. Being from the East and all.

But Enjoy the games though, you and all them BC folks out there.

I have been there twice last week, and parking near O-zone is possible (Gilbert street). I should warn you though: once you get in you have to get into a line for a pay-card, after that you have to line up for a drink. Food has another line up. But if you are there early it shouldn't be a problem at certain times, f.i. when the Dutchies are watching the big screens because of speed skating.
And for lunch: they also sell hamburgers and fries. Don't know if you will like the Dutch food, but you can try it. :D

I'd love to come, Strutz, but I don't think I will be able to make it through the mainland! The first 5 hours drive should be fine, but then

Faye, what Dutch food did they sell?

Wish you could come Brenda! We could go to the "other" line-up with your Dutch passport and all... Know someone who got to go in this line cuz he's dating a Dutch girl...

And Faye... hamburgers and fries I can get anywhere... if I'm going in there I want Dutch food. That is part of the whole point of going there.

Yeah, well... I just want to warn you. :D
They have hutspot, which is carrots with potato and a sausage. Zurekool which is sauerkraut with potato and sausage. Boerenkool, which is kale-and-potatoes, with, SURPRISE!, a sausage. There's also peasoup and salads. I talked to a guy from Toronto and he proudly told me he had tried all the meals. With a lot of ketchup it was ok-ish.

The artist who's going to perform is Gerard Joling.

That is TYPICAL Dutch winter food :D
With ketchup, that is just yuck

Oh, dear, I am sorry you have to listen to Gerard Joling... :?

Might want to bring some ear plugs... will be a party no matter who perfoms! So don't worry about it. Don't know how to describe him, because he does not have a Canadian equivalant.

When I was at the HHH a Dutch guy told a Canadian Marco Borsato was the Dutch Bruce Springsteen (which is totally not true, IMHO).

There's only one "BOSS" and only one Marco Borsato :D
