I heard about it last night. The reporter on KCRA was very generous and made it clear that Canada made way more goal shots than the US did but that the US for the first time had an outstanding goalie. In a nutshell, we didn't have a better team, we just had a better goalie.

I couldn't agree more. Miller was the only one on the US team I was actually worried about, as far as Canada winning goes.

Canada never had the lead, not sure what everyone is talking about The score was not 3-0 Canada, cause then everyone would have said how much Ryan Miller sucked.
But the USA sccored 5 goals Ryan miller did not score those goals.

The Canadian team was in scoring position far more frequently than the US team was. It was only the fact that the US team had a great goalie that stopped Canada from outscoring the US.

If it was left to just score attempts then Canada would have pwned the US team. But this is one of those things about hockey where you can have a mediocre team that scores a couple goals but you win because your goalie prevents the more talented team from scoring.

True. ;)

the Juniors steamrolled over everyone, then lost it at the end.

We needed this little reality check to get some motivation.

Germany easy, Russia wont be a big deal, and then we'll be ready for the rematch.

And if, I will break down and watch that one.

What I don't get is the game that Canada's playing. Why, if you're gonna play run-and-gun, would you take players that can't play that way? With the personnel that was selected, I was expecting traditional, rough-and-tumble Canadian hockey. But if we were gonna run-and-gun, and expect the defensemen to be in the play, then why are Pronger, Niedermayer and Seabrook even on the squad? And up front? There's NO ONE going to the net except Staal. Pronger, Niedermayer, Nash, Marleau and Thornton are way too slow for this style of play. Why aren't Mike Green and Brian Campbell, Martin St. Louis, Jeff Carter and Steve Stamkos on the team, if they were gonna play a speed game with the defense rushing into the play? This team better settle things down and start playing a game that matches the personnel that's on the team. So far, I put the blame squarely on the coaching staff. I like the guys they picked, but they need to look at their roster and get a game-plan that suits the guys they selected. Yzerman's given them the pieces to win, but they won't if they don't play a style ot match their players' strengths.

I hope they won't think Germany and Russia won't be a problem. They still have to do it...

I'm thinking Canada won't be looking past anyone now.

As in any tournament or playoff, you have to have great goal tending to win, the US got that last night. If Canada could have capitalized on 25% of their good scoring chances last night, the score would have been more like 9-5 Canada. Give credit to the US that they did take advantage of their good scoring chances and their goalie played amazing. There are indeed lots of games decided by the goal tending and not by the play of the rest of the team, Miller gave the US the chance to win and they took it. Canada on the other hand blew some plays in their own end and the US pounced on them. Brodeur made two very bad plays that cost two of the US goals, can't win doing that. the rest of team Canada's play was very good, they, for the most part, very much out played the US. I'm a Canucks fan, how many games have they won simply because of Roberto gave them the chance to win? Lots! Part of the game, great goal tending wins games.

I'm quite unhappy with the result, especially with the American hockey team's Anti-Canadian comments towards our Hockey Team and Canada in general, which is a kind of odd thing to say as far as sportsmanship goes.

I wish we didn't lose to such assholes.

I suppose that's the story of Canada though.

I still think Mario and the boys were a better team, BUT THAT WAS THEN AND THIS IS NOW!

The fact is most of the players have matched Canada or are getting better because they have been playing the CANADIAN GAME MORE AND MORE in the NHL ... :D So what should the Canadiens fans expect...... It's like playing a system that is level.... So shit happens! Emotionally Canada has to prove TO itself, this is CANADA'S GAME SO WE HAVE TO KICK BUTT..... [hockey]

Petite bourgeois nationalism can be so annoying sometimes. Winning is earned, it's not an entitlement wrapped up in a silly "OUR GAME!" mentality.

Got outplayed by a hungrier team who had a hot goalie put on a stellar performance. Not much simpler than that. Well, that and any team that has Dany Heatley on it deserves, on a cosmic level, to lose anyway.

Just to be contrary I don't think Miller is as good as everyone is claiming. Yes he had to make a couple of key saves, but it's easy to stop 40+ shots if most of them hit you square in the chest! Someone should tell the Canadian team that in order to score one must shoot where the goalie aint, not where he is. 8O

Also, having 2 men behind the American net and no one screening Miller out front makes his job even easier. I lost track of how often we had no one in front of Miller last night.

Low along the ice, where it hits ankles, skates, or sticks and then goes in. Just like Don Cherry always said. Enough of the fancy passing and inaccurate slap shots. Fire low and often and things will break open on their own.
