Well it was a good game and had it been "amateurs" playing it would have been that much better,eh. At least that's the way I see it.

Just to be contrary I don't think Miller is as good as everyone is claiming. Yes he had to make a couple of key saves, but it's easy to stop 40+ shots if most of them hit you square in the chest! Someone should tell the Canadian team that in order to score one must shoot where the goalie aint, not where he is. 8O

And a good goalie is where the puck is, not where it ain't.

2Cdo 2Cdo:
Also, having 2 men behind the American net and no one screening Miller out front makes his job even easier. I lost track of how often we had no one in front of Miller last night.

Miller had coverage on his six. That's always a good idea.

I'm not saying Miller isn't a good goalie but he is not a great goalie. The shots right at him made him look better than he is.

More big bodies in Millers face would have made his job a little tougher, but by letting him see everything made his job easy.

Any time Staal wasn't on the ice, there was no one in front. How many times is Nash gonna try a wrap around move and have it turn into a turn-over before someone tells him to get in front of the net instead of behind it? He's a big, slow body...put him where he can do some good.

Nash parked in front would be a good start. Point shots low and hard would be nice too. Pronger getting splinters on the bench would be a big plus for Team Canada.

Low along the ice, where it hits ankles, skates, or sticks and then goes in. Just like Don Cherry always said. Enough of the fancy passing and inaccurate slap shots. Fire low and often and things will break open on their own.

And if Shea Weber is firing em it might be some ankles breakin open.

That's what all those shin pads are for.

We totally outplayed them and lost which means they hit a super hot goalie. Brodeur played well and most of the goals were redirected screen shots. Playing an extra game to get into the finals may be a good thing for them.

I agree, it wasn't so much that Brodeur played poorly, it's just that Miller played brilliantly. I think an extra game will be good for us too. A little adversity is the prescription to prevent them from not taking anyone seriously.

The end result was a 5-3 loss which I predicted the exact score in the frist period last night. (scroll back for proof)

But I will say this once again Ryan Miller did not score 5 goals!

Yeah, it's hard to slam Brodeur, or the team for that matter. Brodeur clearly didn't have a great game, but it happens. The guys a great money goalie and always has been, but he's not infallible. No one is.

And the Canadians managed a ton of chances and shots. If Brodeur was a tad better and Miller a tad worse, it would have been 4-3 Canada in the last 60 seconds.

Adn you really can't deny the Americans full credit for that victory. It was a helluvva hockey game.

Oh well. Shit happens. Time to move on and think about Germany. They'll be highly motivated to play the giant-killer here. If the Canadians don't waltz in with the idea that they'll beat teh Germans with their eyes closed, that'll be a good step towards making them play better as a team.

So what?

Had Miller played to the average that NHL goalies do (.910 save percentage - give or take), he would have let in 4 or 5 goals, not the 3 he actually did. He kept the Us team alive while getting shellacked in net in the 1st and 2nd periods. Without his play, the US would have been trailing Canada for most of the game, not the other way around.

This "Own The Podium" nonsense really backfired. All it did was create a bunch of delusional fans that now think that anything other than a 10-0 victory every game is somehow a defeat. Someone didn't think it through too far to realize that this sort of attitude probably pissed off the other countries pretty good and has them rarin' to take a good hard shot at knocking off the prematurely self-crowned champs.

Also, the self-inflicted Heatley Curse makes it kind of hard to feel too sorry for them too.

I mentioned this in another thread. Did people really think the other countries were just going to lay down and let good old Canada steal all the medals because some arseholes in suits came out with a cool slogan? I know when I was playing in my younger days if another team/competitor talked that kind of trash it elevated my game and made me want to destroy and humiliate them.

Overall we aren't doing too bad, just not as good as we'd like.

He's not too popular in my part of the world. We'd rather not have named the new community centre for Dan Snyder.

Well.... I heard from a friend that his friend saw the match on U.S. tv.... I may have just tuned in too late... don't know. I did watch a good recap on MSNBC.com

I still miss not getting the Canadian tv coverage.

For me, having U.S. and Canada is like having two of my own children play against each other. Of course I like to see U.S. win. But I also like to see Canada win.

Ok.... Canada out-shot U.S. but the goalies made the difference, right?

Well... I finally found some hockey on U.S. tv... on cnbc. Watching women's Canada-Finland.

I was wondering how I missed yesterday's U.S. - Canada game on NBC...

Here is a good article that describes the American attitude towards hockey coverage - interesting.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/23/sport ... ir.html?hp
$1:
....Hockey is anathema to NBC in prime time. A hockey game cannot be sliced easily into a series of short events, like ski or luge runs, figure skating programs or speedskating races. If the network cannot chop a sport into two-to-five-minute elements framed with a lot of ads, it is not likely to be shown from 7 p.m. to midnight.....

We just need to change hockey so that we have commercial timeouts every ten minutes.
