In addition to my Black Market weed killer runs to Ontario, I'm thinking of adding a Twinkie run across the border. Twinkies, Ho-ho's and things will still be made in Canada, under the Saputo group. |

As much as I would like to blame the union for this the blame for this lays wholly at Hostess's feet. Hostess has been through a litany of sales and mergers over the last 20 years, each deal being successively worse than the one before it. Add to that the fact that their products, while one of my favorites were becoming quite dated *(a stagnant business is a dead business) and weren’t keeping up with the times. As for the union? The workers made concessions 4 years ago yet the management still found enough room to give themselves healthy pay raises and bonuses in the same time period. So sorry, the demise of my beloved Twinkie falls squarely at the feet of it Hostess’s management. |

Hostess also apparently gave all the executives massive pay raises recently too, which mean their "destroyed by union greed" propaganda is just more of the usual 1% elitist bullshit routine. Take THAT, floor workers probably making all of $15 an hour! That'll teach you to get in the way of someone's stock options! Class warfare is a very real phenomenon. Most people just don't recognize that most of the time the war is being raged from the top-down. |
