Funny how I never heard about the 2$ discount I was getting for paperless billing.

Guess they forgot to tell me.

I still get the bills by mail but they promptly go into the trash as I have them all set to auto withdraw from my account.

I flat refuse to go to paperless billing.

I mail em in and if by doing that I help save one job and make these corporations and companies keep people on just to service me then, fuck em, I've done my little bit.

That and their continual claims that it's perfectly safe to use online billing and banking cause nobody could ever hack their systems, the CIA, DoD but not theirs, yeah sure.

Now excuse me while I go listen to some 33's on my turntable. [B-o]

I don't care for paperless billing either - it pissed me off when Rogers informed me that I'd have to pay $2/month to receive a bill - even though they automatically get paid via my credit card.

They can label it as being environmentally friendly, but it's nothing less than a cash grab (if you pay the $2) or a way to cut costs (if you accept paperless).

I have the same problem with my cell company. If I want any kind of detailed bill I have to pay for the service.

It's total and complete garbage. I think it's time our government stood up for our consumer rights to have a proper bill presented to customers.

My cell service sends me an email when my bill is ready and a text with the amount owing. When I log in to their website, I can dl a pdf with a detailed bill.

I still get bills from Telus and Fortis etc and don't pay extra for the paper.
Paperless should get you a discount, imo.

Rarely do you see so text book an example of a fallacy.

That's why everyone says send cash in the mail.

So you really believe your financial and personal information is safe stored on a computer in some corporations headquarter somewhere

FYI nothing is unhackable, just ask Gary McKinnon and by the way if you think that sending cash in the mail is what people do to pay their bills with paper then you're either so young that don't remember what a mailman was or are just being sarcastic.

Either way I'm still not joining that paperless club.

$1:
McKinnon is under suspicion for hacking into U.S. government computer networks in late 2001 and early 2002, in what's been called a historic breach of security [source: Bingham]. A British court judgment accuses McKinnon of infiltrating 97 computers, installing hacking software, deleting important files and stealing information [source: England and Wales High Court]. He confessed that he left a threatening note on one Army computer, in which he identified himself by the name "SOLO."

McKinnon has admitted to the hacks and said he thought he could find evidence that United States was covering up the existence of UFOs. His case remains ongoing.

Depends on the company. However my information just like your information is already stored on a computer.

Do you have a bank account, credit card, debit, insurance, own property, own a car, registered to vote, have a passport?

Guess what.

My point is that the mail system is much less secure than online. I can transfer money online, I can't mail money, well I can but it's against all the suggestions of mail services.

Feel free to make your life harder than it needs to be.

Thing is, you need to understand that differance between a government computer, and a government computer that has valueable information on it, and one that has useable information. Stealing an encrypted file is next to worthless.

I would state that most online services have more and better security that most buildings have physical security.

The only uncrackable computer is the one never connected to the internet or a network. Plain and simple.

Exactly and people can extoll the virtures of a paperless society all they want but I still don't trust them. Hell if the banks computers can't be hacked  then the one you use at home sure as hell can be, so either way you information isn't safe and if all your banking information is on your home computer how safe really is it and guess what if it gets hacked the banks off the hook.
