Look at the comments below, all heavily thumbed up, most already removed.

The CBC censors have been real busy. :)

The average Canadian has no support for this BS.

I'm not going to get in to what side I'm on in this, but I'm will to bet the protesters who're blocking the passenger trains would get the f..k out of the way if they just didn't stop the trains in first place.

Actually I've changed my mind, personally I am getting sick of this...Please correct me if I'm wrong, but don't they already have more rights and privileges than the average Canadian? I mean they are allowed to hunt and fish all year round and don't have to respect fishing/hunting limits and seasons. Apparently they were given millions and millions of unaccounted for $$$. They don't pay taxes to support the economy like the rest of us. Aren't there also programs in place so that they can get free education/post secondary schooling?

So with no replies to my above post I'm guessing my comment wasn't misinformed. Maybe this is a pointless question because noone is opening this story anymore, but...can someone tell me exactly what the are expecting to gain from this?

Well what kicked it off with the original protest in Ottawa is the government didn't want to grant anymore "emergency aid" to a native band until the gov knew where it was going. So an audit and court case ensued. While only 10 percent was accounted for, the court ruled nothing was fraudulent. The government refused to pay anyways because the other 90% was unaccounted for. And of the 10% that was accounted for, there was evidence of rampant corruption.

So the band decided to protest the government's decision. Their right to do so. But then other bands got on board, citing their own grievances. It grew in a similar way to the Occupy protests. There is no one unifying cause, just a bunch of small groups citing all their own problems. There is no unified purpose, and because of that the original intent has been drown out if not outright lost. All people see now is a bunch of drunk idians causing us issues, and it's not going to end well so long as that remains the perception while the police and politicians stand by idly.

This shit has to end. I hope Harper has the balls to treat these people like equals rather then special.

I've never met a working first nations person that I didn't consider someone worth knowing. It's not the people that are the problem it's the attitudes and environments found on many reserves. Either the attitude and environment has to change or the reserves have to go.

Indeed. I've met many natives, and been on many reserves that actively worked to better themselves and get off the governments tit. Frankly harder working people that the white folk. But sadly they are the exception rather than the norm. :(

The CBC has been throttling those stories since day one. The comments have been overwhelmingly against the FN so the CBC took it upon themselves to cut the flow.

I have probably made 20 comments on those stories in the last month (with no expletives) only two were posted. Pick any other story and make a post, up it goes.

certain folk were accusing the CBC of enabling/publishing/etc hate speech by allowing the posting of comments hostile or critical of Spence, Idle No More, etc.

they were getting complaints.

Yup, those crazy mainstream media types, this story for example, I noticed it was all over the CBC, the sun news network, the national post etc. etc.

http://wcel.org/resources/environmental ... ckscontent

"Kudos to Greenpeace Canada for finding something of a smoking gun exposing the role of the oil and gas industry in the gutting of Canada’s environmental laws. Greenpeace has released a letter from the Energy Framework Initiative (EFI), representing every major oil and gas industry association, asking that the government undertake a major overhaul of six critical environmental statutes that inconvenienced the industry. Five of the statutes have since been replaced or seen major amendments through the dismantling of our country’s environmental safety net s in omnibus bills C-38 and C-45, and further amendments are expected in the near future."

"[I]t may be useful to list, in one place, just how the oil and gas industry – which is getting a number of perks that are unique to the energy sector – is effectively subsidized by the changes to Canada’s environmental laws, and what the implications are for Canadians hoping for responsible regulation of the industry. The industry has been actively lobbying for many of these changes for years, and now they have what they have advocated for."

"Just last November a Polaris Institute report further documented this cozy relationship between the oil and gas industry and federal officials, with government officials meeting with that industry 463% more times than environmental organizations."

The article then goes on to outline the changes to environmental regulations that are a large part of the problem for Canadians.
