The problem is that the market that wants to watch them isn't the same as the market most advertisers want, hence the switch.

I do find it highly hypocritical however that when their bottom line is threatened, they are ready to jump on the bandwagon (Mandatory Carriage) they have attacked others for using.

Meh. Who actually watches the "mandatory channels" in the basic package? Filled with so much crap.

It isn't a free market when you get CBCNN in basic cable, but have to pay
extra for the SUN.

APTN is also forced into the basic package, you get it if you want it or not.

So, it would seem fair to either have all news network stations as add ons,
or all included in a basic package.

Then you could see who watches what.

We already pay for CBCNN, so it makes sense we get in included in basc cable.

Like Saturn_656, I don't watch most channels in 'basic cable', and only PVR a few shows on it.

If the Sun wants more subscribers, sell a product people want. Putting their wares on basic services won't get them any more eyeballs, and their channel won't be able to raise rates to advertisers.

There is no regualtion requring cable subscriobers to include CBCNN in their basic cable package. The biugger problme SUN has is that it appeals to a small demogrpahic, i.e. right-wing nut bags like you.

Still, if they launched a French-only channel, I'm, sure they could swing the deal. ha ha ha

If you pay, you pay voluntarily. Nobody is forcing you to wtach it, nobody is forcing you pay for it, nobody is forcing teh cable subscribers to have it in their basic package.

I, for one, don't see the need to subsidize the right-wing nutjobbery that is driving the States to ruin.

Just get rid of basic cable, allow people to get all channels a la carte, with discounts if you rent more channels. No more bundling a bunch of crap to get one channel you really want.

Please elucidate my ignorance - how is being on basic cable a subsidy?

But I disagree with Caleb. If Sun were on basic, more people would give them a try, and there's plenty of, what did you call them, out there who would be come regular watchers. Hell, I remember driving across the US listening to Rush Limbaugh. It was my first experience with hate radio, my hair was standing on end, but it was sure entertaining.

I read the Sun along with a few other news papers on a daily basis but man their news network is just terrible. I think their first mistake was assuming that just because a person could “write” for the Sun that it automatically qualified them to be a commentator/reporter on their network. Whether or not you agree with their slant on how they cover stories I think everyone would agree that their news anchors for the most part are pretty pathetic.

They've gotta go and raid the Fox bench. Gotta admit the right wing screaming meemies are way hotter than their left wing counter parts. I guess if you're hot you think you got hot all on your own efforts, so anybody can do it, screw that socialist caring for others.

Noticed you missed the APTN, cherry picking left wing nut jobs like you
are good at missing that.

We had the same crap down here. The cable providers gave us CNN as part of the basic package but you had to buy a premium package in order to get FOX News. The FCC threatened to intervene and the cable providers now have FOX in the basic package, too.

Which is only fair.
