Politics are at the heart of this so it's impossible not to bring them into it. Just on the face of it this week is drenched with days that are of major significance to patriot/militia/anti-government groups in the US.

April 15 - Patriot's Day, commemorating the battles of Lexington and Concord
April 19 - 18th anniversay of the Oklahoma City bombing
April 19 - 20th anniversary of the bloody end to the Waco siege of the Branch Davidian compund
April 20 - Hitler's birthday

To not talk about this would be just sticking our heads in the sand.

There is a degree of truth to that, but one can exercise a small degree of common, sense, reason, and humanity to standby and let the dust settle before lobbing political shells into the fog of war.

As well, there are victims to think about. One of the dead was an 8 yr old boy, I believe.

Fife & Dr. C - Thank you both for your kind sentiments. Much appreciated.

Add me to the list. Very happy Lisa is home and safe and that you are not fretting like hell over a silent phone right now.

And me. <3

Yes.
And the fact that this whole marathon was dedicated to / a tribute to the Newtown shooting victims makes me worry that that boy is from Newtown.
Can you imagine?

The target doesn't make sense for a domestic anti-government attack.

Doesn't make sense for anyone but remember the Atlanta bombing? Clearly, it seems to be amateur night regardless of who is involved, given the odd timing ( hours after most of the specatators and world-class competitors had left) and relatively low fatalities.

Actually it would make sense to attack after the elites have finished and left. When the elites are finishing that's when security is tightest. Since some are reporting that the bombs may have been planted while the event was going it would make sense to plant them when security is less strict. However the police are saying the bombs recovered are lacking in sophistication which is why the initial fatality rate is so low. However this is small comfort to those injured by the ones that went off.

The Palin bashing has started.

Meh, you can't really use random tweets to prove any points. I have no doubt I could find a 100 tweets blaming iton Obama. Neither left nor right has a monopoly on stupid ignorant people.

Of course Obama will get blamed... this inside job is part of his secret plan to pass a law on background checks for bomb buying.

I see you one random single-issue radical anti-gay nutjob and raise you a man flying his plane into the Austin IRS building.

Making bombs and killing innocent bystanders though.....still not an even scorecard.

I'm not sure why you're calling that "right wing terrorism" since he was pretty...diverse in who he was angry at, disliking General Motors, the IRS, George W. Bush, the Catholic Church, etc.

Terrorist attack? Sure. "right wing" extremist? Not so much. Don't let your own partisan viewpoints cloud facts. Right now, we don't know who did it, so let's not jump to conclusions

Unfortunate that this has become yet another pre-emptive squabble about which side is responsible for the most terror and the victimized feelings of such claims.

This is an extremely depressing event,

I'm going to wait for the facts to come out. I'd prefer them to come out here; I'd just prefer less politics until then.

Bart, I'm glad your wife is safe, fortunately so is a a coworker of my Dads, a friend of the family, she was about 400 m away from the blast.

Also, Bart, I'm glad to hear that there's a "missed flight" scenereo going for you right now, enjoy that sense of relief, sometimes life's catastrophic happenings can make you really believe in luck

And Tricks, I'm glad she was at a safe distance; though being so close to this event is no doubt a terrifying ordeal

Yeah I overlooked your earlier statement about your wife Bart, but I'm glad she wasn't at the Boston Marathon.

Glad your wife wasn't there, Bart.

There is nothing more barbaric and cowardly than exploding a bomb amongst innocent people. It's something like this that makes me almost wish we still had hanging, drawing and quartering for certain heinous crimes of this sort.

My thoughts are with the poor victims.

It's wonderful to see all the people trying to help in the immediate aftermath. Volunteers running into the blast area to help get injured people out, spectators helping give first aid to people.

Given that an Aryan Nations type of psycho tried to blow up the MLK Day parade in Spokane, Wash. last year with a device that could have killed dozens had it worked, it is justifiable to speculate that a right-wing terrorist is just as likely to target a large crowd as a Muslim terrorist is. The more responsible thing is to block out all the media noise from idiots like Wolf Blitzer when they go on their hyperbolic worst during events like this and just wait a while for an official statement from the police and federal authorities.

Exactly until we know all facts jumping the gun of who's to blame doesn't help anyone and the media needs to be responsible in times like this.

I used to live just a couple of blocks away, at Marlborough and Dartmouth, when I was studying in Boston. Very scary.
