At least he was conscientious enough to whittle "let God sort them out" from the usual "just shoot them all and let God sort them out" that redneck culture typically prefers.

Brenda Brenda:
I guess you missed the point where he mentioned that being gay would 'morph' into bestiality, sex with multiple women etc, and that during the slavery days, blacks were actually happy?

...Uh, I don't think Phil Robertson is old enough to remember the slavery days.

Edit: This this was a bit sarcastic. I'll properly address this. According to him, when he worked alongside blacks in cotton fields, they didn't seem to be down and that he didn't see any abuses of workers. I don't see why that can't be true. In his eyes, he may have never seen one of the plantation owners abuse a black worker, or hear his fellow field hands complain or be down. He was also a white man, so, obviously, they're not going to open up to him about how they feel being treated by shit by other white men. Most likely, those workers put up a facade around him to avoid getting into trouble.

Does that mean they were truly happy? Who knows. According to his experiences, though, he never saw them feeling down, nor did he see abuses. It could be possible they just worked for a decent plantation owner, but it's just as possible that the black workers were treated poorly, but out of sight from him.

As for the morphing part, I find the original article better than the snippets.

$1:
What, in your mind, is sinful?

“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” he says. Then he paraphrases Corinthians: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

It sounds like he was asked a question on what he views as sinful, and his first answer was homosexuality, before listing off others. It doesn't come off like he views homosexuality as a gateway sexual orientation to every other sin in the Bible.

To be fair he limited the 'happy black' statement to black on plantation he worked at in his younger years.
Still, its a pretty dumb statement to say things were good. There was still obvious racism; none of the black farmers he worked with were able to go to collage on a football scholarship like he did. From as far as I can find it wasn't till the start of the 70's that things started to progress for blacks in Phil's neck of the woods.

No there is no racism in saying a breakdown of the black family began following the civil rights era. It's statistical fact that the black family has broken down since they were moved onto the Progressive vote plantation following the era of this infamous quote...

Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ), a Democrat and civil rights icon, speaking while aboard Air Force One about his "Great Society" to two sympathetic governors, said, "I'll have them niggers voting Democratic for the next two hundred years."

Since that time statistical studies have shown a breakdown of the black family. For example there are some mentioned in this article at YourBlackWorld.net.

$1:
According to a report released by the Urban Institute, the state of the African-American family is worse today than it was in the 1960′s. Before you become offended and charge, “What about the White family?!” The report also discloses that families of all ethnicities are showing a decline; however, the African-American household has suffered the worst decline.

Robertson is saying nothing racist. Many say what he said including black people and social scientists. Robertson is pro-black. He is against progressivism. Liberals have a tough time understanding that anti-progressive, and anti-minority are not the same thing, but they aren't.

I didnt say it was racist, just dumb. When blacks had to pass a confusing as fuck literacy test in order to vote, it shows to me that Louisiana was still very much pro white.

Now this is just plain ridiculous! ROTFL

$1:
Today, Ian Bayne called Phil Robertson, star of the A&E series “Duck Dynasty,” the ‘Rosa Parks’ of our generation.
“In December 1955, Rosa Parks took a stand against an unjust societal persecution of black people, and in December 2013, Robertson took a stand against persecution of Christians,” said Bayne.
Parks, famous for refusing to give up her seat on a bus for a white person, as was the rule of her day, provided inspiration for a movement of equality of black people and white people in America.
“What Parks did was courageous,” said Bayne. “What Mr. Robertson did was courageous too.”
Bayne believes that the Duck Dynasty star knew that going on GQ would result in the current controversy going on surrounding his suspension, as well as his suspension.
Bayne added that this exposure of Robertson’s situation is an eye opener for many who may have been previously in disbelief that the bible is fast becoming considered “hate speech” by the media and society.

Fair enough. If you say his comment wasn't racist, I agree with you.

However a pre 60s literacy test shows dumb things were happening back then. I'm not sure Robertson would disagree with you on that. The POV that says progressives put blacks on a vote plantation that broke down their families and traditional value system following the civils rights era does not contradict the idea stupid things were happening in the 60s.

As far as the homosexuality thing goes he basically said in his opinion it was a sin as per his understanding, and he believed it prevented anybody who practiced it from going to heaven.

Something people miss is a big section of that quote in GQ is a quoted by Phil from Corinthians in the bible.

So does he have the right to say it. I say yeah. Does A&E have the right to fire him for it. I say yeah, just like that baker had the right to refuse to bake a cake for a gay wedding (except in that case the baker was shut down; he lost his business so apparently the liberal court system doesn't agree with us on what is allowed there). I personally think A&E has the right to choose not to do business with Phil though. I also think those who disagree have the right not to watch A&E, and the rest of the Robertson family has the right to take the most popular reality show in the history of television to another network. I think what's coming will show us A&E fucked up on a business level.

Ian Baynes is a Congressional candidate, right? I'd never heard of him before that comment, but people who don't like what he says have a right not to vote for him.

I think the baker is a little different matter (Im not entirely familiar with it so if I get something wrong I apologize), since he refused a service based on sexual orientation. Where A&E suspended what could be thought of as a spokesperson for their brand, for portraying a message they did not agree with. I think Phil's philosophy is something A&E has known for a long time, and was likely edited out of the show when he did say something A&E felt was a sensitive subject. If they had something to lines of 'Mr Phil Robertson is a deeply religious individual, however his views are not that of A&E' might have left the door open for him to make similar (possibly more offensive?) statements. I think A&E suspended, rather then fire, Phil so that if this crops up again they can claim they warned him and wash their hands of the issue before permanently dropping him. As I have said before, Duck Dynasty isnt a good fit for A&E and the probably realized it long ago, but didnt want to kill the golden duck because of its sweet sweet ratings it brought to the channel.

I don't have any problem with you having an opinion that differs from mine, but mine concerning that incident is based on the following facts in which I find similarities between the two incidents.

$1:
Here's the story: Jack C. Phillips, co-owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Denver, in July 2012 told Charlie Craig and David Mullins that he would not bake a cake for their wedding. He said as a long-practicing Christian he believed God intended marriage to be for one man and one woman.

He also told the couple, "I'll make you birthday cakes, shower cakes, sell you cookies and brownies, I just don't make cakes for same-sex weddings." He believed he was protected in this because the Colorado Constitution defined marriage as between one man and one woman.

Craig and Mullins apparently didn't have trouble finding another baker to make a cake, one with rainbow-colored filling, for their later out-of-state wedding. It's not as if Phillips prevented them from getting a cake from anywhere in America.

http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013 ... rlie-craig

The baker was not against serving based on sexual orientation. He was pro-bible, and anti-gay marriage. He believed his beliefs prevented him from endorsing gay marriage with his art. The Liberal judge disagreed, and punished him for his beliefs. Robertson publicly expressed his belief homosexuality was a biblical sin, and just like the liberal judge, A&E tried to make him pay for that belief. The situation differs here, only because the Robertson family has yet to get the final word on who pays what.

TMZ's saying that the whole thing never would have happened if Robertson had been interviewed by GQ with his assigned publicist from A&E present. It shows that A&E knew all along they had a loose cannon on their hands if they felt it necessary to have a company rep around Robertson at all times because they knew he'd start ranting weird stuff if the interview was unvetted and unsupervised. Robertson is what he is, but A&E's totally full of shit by pretending to be outraged when they apparently knew all along what Robertson personally believed in and was known to mouth off about it in public. All A&E saw was the amount of money they could make off of this backwoods dingus. That it's all fallen apart is far more their responsibility than it is his.

It is common knowledge, not just Phil, but the entire family have had disputes with A&E regarding what they see as their right to express their Christian beliefs.

Yup I agree, A&E saw big ratings and didnt care what Phil's views were until they were made public. When the monkey stopped dancing to the organ grinders tune, they boxed the monkey.

Big fucking deal the whole thing. So they believe gays are sinners. They, and many other Christians, also believe that non-Christians or Christians not of their sect will go to hell because they don't believe "the truth." So most of the world are going to hell, straight or gay. If he didn't advocate violence or such against gays, it's no different than somebody expressing all sorts of crazy shit some Christians (and of course every other religion) believes.

I think gays have become a bit too precious - OMG, somebody doesn't agree that my sexuality is wonderful - banish him immediately.

I don't understand how you guys can watch this shit, just looking at these guys is enough to make me switch channels. But big fucking deal that one of em thinks gays are sinners. Now I didn't watch or read anything about this except this thread, so if he went over the top, that's a different matter.

For the rightie tighties here tho, some of your were sure calling for the expulsion of the guy who said something nasty about Sarah Palin, yet have your knickers all in a knot about this case. This is how the game works - if the corporation thinks somebody representing them in some way harms their profits, s/he's gone. If they make them more money, they're welcome to come out with all kinds of shit.

That's a bit of a fuzzy subject, Phil has publicly brought it up that he was annoyed with some of the producers editing (I think it was a part of the show where they had praised Jesus, with the producers rebuttal being in the previous 8 episodes they left it in and the rest of the references were cut due to editing the show, probably for time) and the staging of events. While the rest of the family has remained silent or just simply what they have always said they support Phil. There was a rumor that Atheists and Liberals complained and were getting the show pulled, but snopes has found this to be false. At least at the time the rumor was reported.... http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/duckdynasty.asp

Never watched a minute of this odious phoney show. Merely commenting with massive gales of malicious laughter at the two-faced nature of the right-wing Bible-thump freakout. Only in a country where a vapid and cancerous nullity like Sarah Palin has any credibility would such a thing happen.

Also, Martin Bashir and Alec Baldwin got fired. So did Dan Rather and Jayson Blair. On the other side of the coin creatures like Beck, Limpbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, etc, all get annual raises and massive bonuses. Apparently the so-called lefties and progtards at least police their own when they step out of line or fuck up. The righties reward their own for every malicious act they commit and actively encourage them to behave even worse and to sink even lower. Says something right their about the nature of the criticism aimed at A&E for (pretending) to do something about Phil Robertson.
