good for them... history hasn't been especially kind to the Baltics and Poland when it comes to invasion and repression, though they have their historic glories as well. I wish all these patriots, young and old, health and luck and hopefully they will not be needed in any major way.

Poland has a militia. Too bad they don't have the right to bear arms so I suppose they'll just scream "HALT!!!" at the Russian tanks as they cross into Poland.

Again.

Unlike where there is a right to bear arms, when the Army is totally crushed the high school football team led by a dance instructor stops the Russians in their tracks....

We're not the ones scrambling to put together an army to defend against the Russians...for real. If the Poles had any sense they'd revisit gun rights before the Russians do it for them.

You and your biggest pop gun won't stop a tank either. Nor will they do much else than piss off the driver if he can even hear it.

A Mason jar full of gasoline is often a pretty effective weapon against even the fanciest armor.

The CF knows it.

Really now. At the start of the Second World War, did the Poles sit around and hope for the best when the Germans invaded? No. They were horribly outnumbered and outmatched, yet they still took up the fight, charged the German tanks with cavalry, swords, and lances, knowing full well that they would lose. Poles don't give up without a fight, period.

The Poles have a lot of modern technology now, and a lot of allies. A Polish general recently said indirectly that he was hoping the Russians would start something, as the Poles have a MAJOR axe to grind with the Russians.

Also, being of half Polish descent, I take some offence at your statement.

Brave but not overly bright.

The point is that the Poles would never lay down for the enemy, no matter the cost. Defend their country to the last.

It may not have been the 'bright' thing to do, but sometimes it's the only thing you can do. Freedom and liberty, or death.

I doubt that any sufficiently prepared enemy that wanted to invade the US would be too scared at all of the gang-banger hoodlums packing heat or the sort of bozos in open-carry who do things like parade around the shopping mall carrying their AR-15's to show how 'tough' they are. The idea that the citizen militia has any chance against a determined invader/occupier is pretty bogus. If the invader is prepared to accept the physical/material/financial losses that they'd receive combatting against an insurgency then the insurgency isn't going to win. The US left Vietnam because of the collapse of public/political support and the Soviets left Afghanistan because of the sea-change in Kremlin foreign policy brought in by Gorbachev, not due to military losses or battlefield setbacks. Change the politics of the times and those wars could easily enough gone on for a lot longer.

The current crop of puffed-up American militiaman is more of a threat to the local cops, the people he works with, his wife/kids, and to himself when he finally commits suicide of has that accidental shooting that puts a round through his liver. Any real soldier from a trained and disciplined military would most likely find the vast majority of these clowns entirely (and deservedly) laughable. These certainly aren't the kind of 'fighters' than any other nation should consider emulating. Israel or Switzerland maybe, but definitely not the US variety.

The uncle of a member of my extended family was in the Polish military and died on the first day of the war. They were marked for death and they would have died even if they hadn't fought back (and they did). Their fate was sealed. History does things like that.

Freedom and liberty, or death.

They didn't win freedom or liberty........but they did die. It wasn't until Solidarity came into being that Poland started to win back some of its freedom, some forty some years later.

Hope the NDP doesn't find out about the lethality of mason jars. They'd probably want to start a mason jar registry.
