Ah, BS. If there's "less interest" in cold cereal among my generation, it's because of the price. There's plenty of twenty-somethings still eating cereal for dinner.


Price shouldn't be that big a concern. A jug of milk and a box of cereal can be had for about 10 bucks and could give you breakfast for an entire week!


You can get a bag of oats, bag of raisins and a bag of apples for $20, and have breakfast for a month!

Don't feel too sorry for yourself. Go back a generation and feel for those suckers they tried to feed bird seed & budgie gravel to for $20 a box. :mrgreen:


"Sunny Boy" !! Dang, I love that stuff. Hard to find nowadays. Costco used to carry it, but I haven't seen it there for a couple years.

Well the USCG mess on base always serves crappy tasting cereal or god awful Oatmeal yuc even in the Officer's Ward Err. God-dam good-thing there is a Bill Miller's across the way serving Brisket, Eggs, Toast, grits cheaper then 8.00 [drool]


Back in the day I used to keep bags of raisins and dried cranberries around and I'd bring them to morning mess just to spice up my oatmeal.

After I got some parallel lines on my khakis I added brown sugar. :wink:

I don't think this article says crap about the real issue. People aren't too lazy to wash a bowl. The real issue is in general, families don't sit down to eat nearly as much as we once did. Cereal requires you to sit and eat. You can't take it in the car and go.

Life keeps getting faster paced. We have less free time. People adapt. I'm sure the same companies making the cold cereal are the ones making the travel breakfast bars, yogurts etc anyway.

This article should really read "Our overly busy lives are destroying family time and meals." Maybe we need to decide as a society that our home lives are more important than letting employers run us 24/7.

You nailed it. If I'm paid to be on-call fine. But I avoid those jobs like the plague.
This whole concept that we're always on the company's dime is ridiculous, especially when it's one sided.

I’m lucky now, I’m the boss. It’s amazing what people are willing to do for you in the off hours though if you aren’t a total douchbag during normal work days. They’re so used to being shat on, simple human responses result in undying loyalty. You’d think management schools would teach it to the future leaders of tomorrow.

“Yes, you can go home paid because your mom died. That’s real life, this is just a paycheck.”
“Yes, sick is sick. Stay home”
“If you’re done your work and it’s quiet, kick off early. No one cares”
“I don’t care when you got into work, or how long your lunch is. Is your work done on time and well?”

What gets me is every single management study I’ve ever read says the same thing. Treat your workforce well and they work FAR harder and don’t leave. Yet, so very few places run that way. Human nature to want to abuse power I guess.

Excellent point you have made. It is all about convenience nowadays. What can I hold in one hand while I do something else (like drive) in the other?

LOL. Your commute is even shorter than mine. Mine is about a 5min walk. But I need one hand for my coffee mug and the other these days to hang onto my coat hood against the wind and rain.
