embrace a free market and the type of gov't that allows it,
. I think we would all agree that a prosperous first world country would be ideal, but a pist-communist state would probably just go the way if mist banana republics, ruled by organied crime, local oligarchs, multinational corporations and US puppet dictators. Those days are not long gone, it's the living experience of just about every developing country, only someone with their head completely up their arse would believe otherwise

Bautista was every bit as brutal and oppressive as Castro, which is why there was a revolution in the first place. So to the extent the righties don't care about Bautista's crimes, they shouldn't have such a hard-on for Castro.

No. Tell it to these guys who hightailed it to Miami after Castro took over from Batista.

Some of them are dead, but you can still find their progeny easy enough. Here they are in Miami last night.

But if we should find a Guatemalan to quiz, should we also ask him how anxious he is to immigrate to Venezuela?

So, are you trying to say that the people on the raft are trying to get to Venezuela ?

There really is no good side.

There are good people. There are even good groups of people, up to a certain size of population. Every organization above a clan level though? Nope. Every single organized body or institution humans have ever created is doomed to failure, and is horrible prone to oppression, to brutality, to domination by the most greedy & cruel, and to atrocity. It's the basic human condition and it will never change.

I would have said human nature... same difference, I guess.

Just as an example on how bad I think it is, out of all the active posters here, there are maybe 2 I'd see in positions of power. 8O

I'm obviously not one but I'm painfully curious to hear which posters have that honour :o

Honour???

I thought that was an insult. [huh]

Here comes another taxpayer funded Vacay.

Yup, for him and 284 of his closest friends and government helpers.

Raul Castro is no different than his brother which means nothing will change. :

I just finished describing how it already is becoming different and how it already had started to change. But you can keep making empty ideological statements that are based on absolutely zero facts or knowledge that's pretty much the rightie MO (See my earlier post calling out Martin which he conveniently ignores like a little chickenshit).

Right and Iran is changing because the Mullahs allow satellite dishes, the internet, the influence of the West etc. Cuba like Iran will never change because when Raul Castro is gone there's 10 more just like him and Fidel.

"To be Canadian right now."
Justin Potato Trudeau embarrassed Canada and insulted the memory of every Cuban who drowned trying to escape Castro's regime and the ones who died in his jails as political prisoners.

Again you base that comment on absolutely zero knowledge of either country or their inner workings, just your own ignorance.

And how come you're not concerned with all the people who have been imprisoned or killed by China or Saudi Arabia?

Sorry Just Potato Trudeau's Dictator Socialist Hero died and is rotting in HELL! The families of Fidel and Raul Castro's victims have a better idea of what Cuba's real future will be where as you don't have a Fucking Clue. As for the Iran comparison it obviously went right over your head. When the USSR fell everyone cheered about new freedoms for the Russian people and where is Russia today? The same place Cuba will be, Communist Dictators never give up power they only give the illusion of it.

Funny how our PM has enough class to address the people of Cuba, mention benefits they gained and STFU about ideological bullshit in the Cuban people's time of mourning.
Unlike the rabid rightwing parrots who gotta stick to their narrow notions and would rather lecture and belittle them.
And conveniently ignore contemporary Latin American "good guys" who liked to murder nuns, missionaries, church officials, aid workers and anyone else while delivering NO improvement in their standard of living, health, or education. Same ones posting bullshit from obscure catfur.com cuz the MSM is hiding the truth and posting pictures from Miami, too fucking stunned to realize those are not Cubans they're fucking Americans.
Perhaps you could dig up some real opinions off the Internet, like from Honduras, Guatemaa, Nicauragua, Dominican Republic, Chile, etc from people who aren't filthy rich or gov't class and see how much better off they are for eating the shit of 10 US administrations.

Latin America is another casualty of the Cold War where US interests (Iran Contra) were put first.

More accurately where US corporate and mercantile interests were put first. Any communism down there was just icing on the cake for the US anyway because it gave them the additional monetary boost by providing them with an excuse to flood the place with weapons.
