The incident dates back to Sept. 30, 2016 when the girl allegedly began acting violently in her Mississauga school, kicking and punching at school administrators, according to police.

$1:
"There nothing a 48-pound, six-year-old girl could've done," she told CBC Toronto.

No Mom, the police had little choice because you didn't do what you should have done.

I don't condone cuffing a child, but the Officers don't have the option of putting the kid through a wall, like my Mom would have done to me if I acted like that. Their toolbox is limited.

We deal with a lot of behaviorals here, primarily due to inbreeding and FASD....that and the fact that the kids are feral due to no adult supervision. Melt downs are frequently violent and several students are threats to students and staff.

Even in preschool there are incidents of 'kids' going after staff and other children with scissors and other sharp objects. What is needed is a sound proof padded time out room where they can scream, and thrash without harming themselves or anyone else. The police and teachers are really limited as to they can respond/react to violent students.

I was asked once by some locals what would happen if someone attacked me, my wife or my kid and I just answered,'Likely do life'.

I remember in elementary I had this reject friend named Tanner. In Grade 6 it took four of the school's faculty to hold him down during one of his freakouts.

Chased me out of his house with a kitchen knife after a game of YuGiOh. It was winter, he was wearing underwear, and we were 11.

Kids are terrfying

I wonder if the kid was 'scared straight' though. Maybe that technique works on kids that like to have regular public tantrums.

$1:
The child had previously been suspended by the school and officers had been deployed in the past for similar incidents involving the girl, according to Peel Regional Police spokesman Sgt. Josh Colley.

When two Peel police officers arrived on the scene and weren't able to calm down the child, they handcuffed the six-year-old's hands and feet for "the safety of other students and ultimately the child," said Colley.

"No police officer wants to walk into this situation, nor do we want to restrain a child. But their safety is our number one priority," he added.

The child was not injured, but her mother believes there is no scenario where a child should be forcibly restrained.

She wasn't hurt. What's the problem?

It doesn't sound like this kids' behaviour is something that can be corrected with punishment, much less "putting the kid through a wall".

You have no idea if this is a learned behavior or a manifestation of an underlying condition.

I've seen kids of this vintage on psychotic episodes and you're right that it's pretty crazy. If the kid is hitting other people then I can understand an officer handcuffing the kid for the safety of everyone involved.

It also mitigates some of the legal liability because if the handcuffs are restraining the child then the officer doesn't have to hold the child to restrain the child.

Something like not giving a specific coloured cup to a child can cause such turmoil that I'm left shook

The cuffs look bad but as long as they weren't cutting marks into her wrists and she was actually out of control (which is 100% believable) I think it was a pretty benign action
