We will likely not ever know exactly how many got taken out by this strike. If they aren't already cremated they are effectively buried.

Wow. That's kind of awesome. But why use a surface effective bomb on caves and tunnels? More a show of force than actually the proper tool for the job isn't it? |

Depending on the soil density and rock formation it could kick off enough of a concussive blast to collapse a tunnel system. More likely though if they could detonate it close enough to a cave entry it would instantaneously suck all the air out of the entire complex. The effect would be enough to basically explode the lungs of everyone inside. Normally something that grim would rate at least one "eww" against a semi-civilized enemy but if they were ISIS or Al Qaeda the only real response to them dying that way should be "WHOO HOO!". |

Tricks Tricks: Wow. That's kind of awesome. But why use a surface effective bomb on caves and tunnels? More a show of force than actually the proper tool for the job isn't it? That much explosive would send shockwaves down into the caves and tunnels that'll puree the lungs of everyone inside. Most of those exposed will be dead and those that don't die immediately will drown in their own blood and then they'll die. Not a pretty way to go. |

For what it's worth Afghan officials are now claiming that the MOAB killed almost forty of the ISIS lice in yesterday's attack. |

We don't have so many of the hardcore bunker busters any more. Between Bush and Obama they used up the majority of them which were made using 16" battleship rounds left over from WW2. Besides, it's cost efficent to use this thing since it's been sitting around since 2003 and sucking up maintenance resources. May as well use it and save some money. |
