This is just plain wrong on so many levels. But on a happier note this would explain why the customer service people I spoke to at sears went off the rails when I questioned their companies eithics.

I was going to buy a treadmill from Sears listed for $599.99 but while surfing Facebook I clicked a link and while perusing why some moron became a hermit I noticed that Sears Canada was offering the same treadmill for $499.99 but when you clicked the link it took you to their web page and the treadmill was still $599.99.

Well of course being the inquisitive type I phoned Sears and asked why the price difference. Well the first lady I got told me that Sears would honour the advertised price if I sent them a screenshot of the advert. Well unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to do that so I told her that I'd phone back when I had it sorted out. So, anyway I got it sorted out took the screenshot and phoned Sears again. Unfortunately I got some guy who listened to my story and then told me he had to put me on hold while he claimed to be checking to see if they had any in stock. Well I waited long enough that the automatic phone system cut off and sent me to the "customer satisfaction survey". I politely answered all their questions.

Then I thought, in for a penny in for a pound so I decided to give it one more try. Well this time I got some lispy millennial who when I explained what had happened previously immediately told me that since Sears couldn't verify the advertisement's date they couldn't honour the ad. I then asked him in a very forcefull voice why the first woman had said they would and why the second guy never said they wouldn't. Well he started making excuses and when I cut him off he went to the proverbial millennial standby about not shouting at him. I then politely informed him that after numerous years in the Navy a ton of them as a Drill,Junior Officer and seamanship instructor, if I shouted at him his ears would be bleeding. And then when he started shouting at me, 8O I politely informed him that i'd be dealing with someone else to buy a treadmill.

Suffice to say that I didn't get my treadmill at the reduced price but, maybe my 2 page complaint to the head office will get one of these executive assholes to follow my advice and stop the false advertising because I've reported them to the Better Business Bureau.

It's quite normal for companies that are on the way to closure to pay bonuses to management and key staff in order to retain them through to the closing of the business.

Been there and done that a few times and while it looks bad it's very sensible if you're trying to retain people during a shutdown.

Especially the "top notch" people who bankrupted the company in the first place
