Never said he wasn't. Who is he talking to?

To elaborate. I detest Maher, as I see him as a squander of his perch for cheap laughs. A renaissance man he is not. That does not mean he is not cultured as the court he holds has uninteresting characters. Many a person of power and influence is on his show and even a broken clock is right twice a day.
.

Like Barbara Lee, Maher had some unpopular things to say after 9/11 and he even lost his job for it. At the time it was very difficult to go against the herd. The observation that the maniacs who ploughed into the WTC weren’t cowards is a simple fact. The other claim, that drone warfare is cowardly, is more up for debate. What has become clear is that the strategic cost of firing missiles into towns can take take years to become fully apparent. Over the years, Maher has morphed into a cranky old contrarian who harbours dangerously anti-vaxxer prejudices and can’t stand millennials, but at least one gets the feeling he’s not tailoring his opinions for ratings.

9-11. A Story in Three Parts.

$1:
Today’s episode is a departure from our normal format. We were tempted to let the 20th anniversary of 9/11 pass given it will be oversaturated with remembrances and armchair punditry as well as the usual tragedy porn imagery. But the impact of 9/11 remains so widespread that it’s impossible to ignore. So, we wanted to add something honest, critical and ultimately hopeful to the mix. This episode contains none of our typical irreverence or profanity, nor do we traffic in speculation or conspiracy. Rather, this is a story of a consequential date in history told in three parts and beginning nearly 50 years ago.

Anyone who's downplayed Covid-19 in the US has no business ever speaking about 9/11 again.

Hannity was freaking out about the last US troops killed in Afghanistan by that suicide bomber the other week. "All Joe Biden's fault!". No mention from him, of course, about the 450000 dead Americans who died from COVID during Trump's reign of corrupt error. Or those who keep dying in primarily pro-Trump counties and GQP-run states thanks entirely to the malice of the local Republican politicians interfering in the health system and punishing people who still want to wear masks and get vaccines.

Yeah, the boat of conservative morals/ethics/values floated away from the dock all long time ago. And then it's crew set it on fire in the middle of the ocean, even if it meant the loss of their own lives. None of them will ever have a single idea or thought or belief worth listening to ever again. They are quite literally monsters.

It's hard to believe it's been 20 years. :(

I came across this article and I actually don't recall hearing about this before or seeing these photos.

As the Twin Towers fell, the maritime community would rescue and transport an estimated 400,000 people off the island of Manhattan to New Jersey and elsewhere.

Shooting in the dark is always risky, unless you have a compliant MSM that will back up anything you say without complaint.

60 Words, 20 Years

$1:
It has now been 20 years since September 11th, 2001. So we’re bringing you a Peabody Award-winning story from our archives about one sentence, written in the hours after the attacks, that has led to the longest war in U.S. history. We examine how just 60 words of legal language have blurred the line between war and peace.

In the hours after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, a lawyer sat down in front of a computer and started writing a legal justification for taking action against those responsible. The language that he drafted and that President George W. Bush signed into law - called the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) - has at its heart one single sentence, 60 words long. Over the last decade, those 60 words have become the legal foundation for the "war on terror."

In this collaboration with BuzzFeed, reporter Gregory Johnsen tells us the story of how this has come to be one of the most important, confusing, troubling sentences of the last two decades. We go into the meetings that took place in the chaotic days just after 9/11, speak with Congresswoman Barbara Lee and former Congressman Ron Dellums about the vote on the AUMF. We hear from former White House and State Department lawyers John Bellinger & Harold Koh. We learn how this legal language unleashed Guantanamo, Navy Seal raids and drone strikes. And we speak with journalist Daniel Klaidman, legal expert Benjamin Wittes and Virginia Senator Tim Kaine about how these words came to be interpreted, and what they mean for the future of war and peace.

Finally, we check back in with Congresswoman Lee, and talk to Yale law professor and national security expert Oona Hathaway, about how to move on from the original sixty words.
