Rise up, rise up Alberta. With you all the way.

I think it is about time I considered moving to a province that has the national interests along with their own at the forefront of their concerns. Especially considering the hypocrisy of a province that is the largest shipper of dirty coal than any other in N America while daily polluting their waters with their own filth.

The same people who voted in the NDP are going to rise up against the very policies that the NDP secretly loves?

Not highly likely.

I found the article hilarious.

As if one pipeline out of the hundreds that already exist, will somehow destroy the core of what it means to be 'Albertan' if it doesn't get built. Puhleease!

And what do you suppose they secretly love? We're not up on secret agendas.

The NDP hates oil and (ergo) oil pipelines.

The federal NDP and the non-Alberta NDP parties certainly do. :|

And the BC NDP are in power as a result of an alliance with the Greens who hate oil obsessively.

The secret Policy of the NDP in Alberta would be that they like tax money even more than party policy of hate against the oil industry.

Or was that a secret either?

Yeah, that's why the federal NDP suggest getting it to court NOW to get it over with and anyone concerned with their environment (like their beaches, fisheries, waterways and backyards) is by definition a hater of oil and jobs.
Must be why Horgan pisses off the Greens by courting LNG, he hates oil so much. And the protestors are dead set against the oil from BC that's using the existing line too.

I'm sure the KM boardroom is ROTFL and popping champagne corks now both Alberta and the Feds are considering public money to invest.
Haha! Now all we need them to do is promise to pay for the cleanup if anything fucks up.

The Alberta NDP have been entirely reasonable with the industry during their time in office. The companies didn't bother too much with complaining about the carbon tax because they knew it's implementation was inevitable someday. And the Dippers left the situation alone when they did their own royalty review and convincingly found out that the companies were paying a fair share to the province. They backed off, which is more than can be said about the Tories under Ed Stelmach who recklessly increased the royalty take back in 2010 and triggered a mini-recession when the companies lashed back and reduced their activity dramatically.

All in all the NDP has been alright IMO. Aside from the party label Rachel Notley has nothing at all in common with either Horgan or Singh/Mulcair/etc.. They live and work here and they're at least smart enough not to deflate the balloon just to mindlessly satisfy the ideology of their out-of-province brethren who either want to loot the business or shut it down altogether.

Good luck finding one.

It wasn't lack of pipelines that have done in the oil sands, it's price. Dilbit is a low-quality product, and Vancouver is a low-quantity shipper (it can only handle an Aframax tanker). Thre's not going to much money in this venture. Oil prices have crashed globally,. which has more to do with Alberta's doldrums than Horgan or Notley.

I don't agree with Horgan's theatrics, or these yahoos flying out, presumably on a plane that uses oil, to get arrested at pipeline protests. It's federal jurisdiction and the end of the day BC is going to have to eat it, unless the natives opposed are successful in court.

But to think that some Texas oil company's bid to ram through an at-best marginally profitable pipeline is a "fight for Canada" is just a bunch of horse shit. I take that back; horse shit actually has a use.

Less than a "fight for Canada" than it is for the rule of law not to be derailed by endless goal-post shifting. I don't accept the "fight for Canada" propaganda from the pro-pipeline people any more than I do the "inevitable environmental disaster!" bullshit that comes from the greenies. Transmountain, if it goes ahead, will be the most closely supervised and inspected project in the history of the industry because it's in their absolute own best interest not to have any fuck-ups happen with multiple levels of government overseeing them as well as an increasingly desperate business that's relying on this thing to get them the revenue they need to sustain themselves.

There is no 100% safety guarantee on this project than there is on any other one anywhere else in the world. But with the tension this one's caused it'll get as close as it can to being probably the best-constructed and inspected pipeline of it's type ever built.

I spent my career doing environmental stuff. People assume that I'm pretty green. But when you've seen the inside of a slaughterhouse, a refinery, a dam, a pulp mill, a sewage treatment plant--even a war--you get some appreciation for the generally ugliness required to provide these technological wombs we call cities. The people living in these cities never see it. It's like the Emerald City, full of yellow brick roads and rainbow horses and some grumpy old fuck behind a curtain pulling levers in a dingy room.

I'm not pro-environment, I'm not anti-environment. I'm not even pro- or anti-Kinder Morgan. But most of all I think the metrosexuals need a reality check as to where, exactly, they think their lifestyle comes from. I don't think it's NDP / Con anymore, or east/west. I think the Great Divide today is urban/rural. And I find myself somewhat surprised, as a life-long city slicker, to be landing staunchly in the rural camp. That's why I seem to have so many friends and family who are first nations now--they are rural folks but without the dumbass redneck mentality.

Six more years working for the man and then I'm headed for ranch country.
