I find it very disingenuous that they'd hear an appeal by a Squamish Native band not directly involved in the Kinder Morgan dispute but refuse to hear one by Veterans. But what's even more disconcerting is their statement that there was no obligation or "social covenant" to those who have served.

Well that may be "legally" true but, there is a moral covenant that they as an unbiased arbitrator and the last two gov'ts have refused to properly address. Just out of courtesy for the sacrifice Veterans made they should have heard this case no matter how they ruled.

But this is good news for Trudeau and means he still doesn't have to honour his campaign promise to fully reinstate pensions.

The high court was asked to consider hearing an appeal of a British Columbia Court of Appeal ruling last December which stated there was no obligation or "social covenant" in Canada to those who have served in the military.

The reverse of this is that those who serve in the military don't have an obligation or social covenant to GAF about Canada.

Now watch your tribe of NCO's ditch the CF in droves. It's those professional soldiers who are most likely to be disaffected by this bullshit statement. The force multiplier that these men and women bring to the battlefield will be lost and I'll tell you straight up that the cost will be found in higher casualty rates.

The professionals will find other jobs to perform.

And I hate to say it, but your culture doesn't breed patriots so you're not going to get a lot of flag-waving, nationalistic patriotic Canadians to enlist simply because there's not that many flag-waving, nationalistic patriotic Canadians.

Just get out of the military business if you're going to just use these people and then shit all over them when you're done with them.

It's fucking disgusting.

That it is.

Win lose or draw they should have at least had the courtesy to hear the Veteran's case but then again I guess most of their time is taken up with indigenous issues like these.

As for losing longtimers. It started years ago when Harper used the same line the Supreme Court did about not having an obligation to Veterans. I won't speak for the Army or the Air Force but from what still serving Senior NCO's tell me, the West Coast Navy is manning critical. Recently they've had to take sailors who just returned from deployment and pier head jump them to another ship going on deployment just to flesh out crews.

So, when you combine that with the fact that there's no chance of being properly taken care of if you're injured it leads to alot of people refusing to re-enlist when their initial term is up. As for the others who've invested to much time to just walk away with return of contributions they wait till the first day they're pension eligible and swallow the anchor.

When I said 'soldiers' I meant to include swabbies, squiddies, and zoomies as well. [B-o]

He also suggested the federal government had no choice but to defend itself.

"Their claims raised complex and far-reaching issues and when a legal action broadly impacts the government of Canada, as in this case, the government is obligated to defend itself against claims that appear to be unfounded in Canadian law," O'Regan's statement said.
Ok, so re-write the law to make everybody happy.

Who but the government has an obligation to the military. It’s not like the military picks and chooses their jobs the government sends them. The military/ government also can change release times if they feel they are losing to many of one trade. It’s a disgrace. Unfortunately Canada only seems to care about the military when they want aid to the civilian powers
