Interesting. Not saying it's not in there but I see nothing about the commercial sale of bottled water in plastic bottles.

When asked about his own family's plastic use, Trudeau responded.
Quote:

“We have recently switched to drinking water bottles out of… water out of… when we have water bottles out of plastic. Sorry! Away from plastic towards paper like drink-box water bottles sort of things,” replied the Prime Minister.

Riiiight. Because water comes in little drink boxes. I see them everywhere. And uh, those "paper-like drink boxes" contain single use plastic too.

Michelle Rempel had a few chuckles on that one:

This swan building her nest from plastic is the reminder we all need to do better with waste

We're giving them more material to build nests... what can go wrong? :?

I can answer that, but it's not a pretty picture. :(

Swan show's how one time use plastics are not one time use but reusable.

That picture is almost funny but mostly it's sad and embarrassing.

A very small snapshot of what we, as mankind, have done to our beautiful planet.

Trudeau’s 'plastic ban' won’t help the environment. It could actually harm it instead

Quote:
Unfortunately for the environmentally conscious among us, a ban on single-use plastics does almost nothing for the issue of plastics impacting ocean marine life, and does very little in terms of environmental impact. Canadians are not significant polluters when it comes to marine litter. Up to 95 per cent of all plastic found in the world’s oceans comes from just 10 source rivers, which are all in the developing world...

So we should do nothing since we're not polluting enough. :?

What could we do to get that number up?

Fixed that for you and here's your answer (from the article.)

Quote:
There are simple solutions available to us that don’t involve heavy-handed bans. First, we could focus more strictly on limiting how plastics end up in our rivers, lakes and streams. Better recycling programs and stricter littering prohibitions could go a long way to curbing the plastic Canada does contribute. For those single-use products that otherwise end up in landfills, we could follow Sweden’s lead, and incinerate that waste. Doing so creates a power source for local communities, while capturing airborne toxins, limiting toxic runoff, and significantly reducing the volume of waste.

Good public policy should address a real problem and should make a meaningful impact on the said problem. Unfortunately, Trudeau’s proposed single-use plastics ban would have little to no impact on overall ocean waste, while promoting high-impact alternatives, and inflating costs for consumers. All three of these factored together create a fairly toxic policy mix.

OR... imagine this for a second... we stop using single use plastic.

Why didn’t you share the link for that quote?

The plastics/petrochemical industry is eager for any solution on the discharge end of the plastic pipeline but don’t want any on the input end because that hurts their bottom line.

I've pretty much eliminated the one-use plastic in my life except for a few things they still package in it at the grocery store. As soon as I finish the Saran Wrap I have, I'm not buying any more. What I have though is a big box of the stuff I bought at Cosco about 20 years ago... I don't think I'll ever use it all. 8O
