Law enforcement officials have said a 21-year-old Dallas-area man named Patrick Crusius is in custody in the shooting. The officials were not authorized to discuss an ongoing investigation publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Thoughts go out to everybody who had their lives turned upside-down today.

Saturday, in the aftermath of the El Paso mass shooting, near the scene, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX), a candidate vying for the 2020 Democratic Party presidential nomination, blamed President Donald Trump in part for the day’s tragedy.

O’Rourke called Trump a “racist” and accused the president of stoking racism, which he said could be a part of the alleged shooter’s motivations.

Maybe we should play differently this time and not blame Muslims or Trump before we get all the information.

According to NBC News, the FBI was aware of the document before the shooting, but investigators were not able to find the target of the attacker fast enough. The document has led to a possible hate crime investigation. Law enforcement sources told ABC News that Crusius told investigators his goal was to kill as many Mexicans as possible.

“Even if other non-immigrant targets would have a greater impact, I can’t bring myself to kill my fellow Americans.” The manifesto writer said he supported the Christchurch shooting citing the “Great Replacement” anti-immigration theory postured there. The writer says that his hatred of immigrants predate Trump so “don’t blame” the president.

“My ideology has not changed for several years. My opinions on automation, immigration, and the rest predate Trump and his campaign for president. I putting this here because some people will blame the President or certain presidential candidates for the attack. This is not the case. I know that the media will probably call me a white supremacist anyway and blame Trump’s rhetoric. The media is infamous for fake news. Their reaction to this attack will likely just confirm that.”

The screed is called “The Inconvenient Truth.” It’s reported to have been authored and uploaded to the internet by the 21-year-old suspect. In it, Crusius says, “My whole life I have been preparing for a future that currently doesn’t exist.”

Heavy called and left two messages with the FBI El Paso field office spokesperson Jeanette Harper Saturday afternoon to get confirmation of law enforcement’s investigation into the manifesto allegedly written by Crusius.

But CNN wrote, “…investigators are reviewing an online writing posted days before the shootings that may speak to a motive.”

By evening, the FBI forensically confirmed that the document was created at 1 a.m. and uploaded less than half an hour before the shooting, it was reported.

The FBI saw the post but not only didn’t have enough time to act, they didn’t know where the attack was set to occur.

raydan raydan: Maybe we should play differently this time and not blame Muslims or Trump before we get all the information. Exactly. They have arrested him and now we wait for the questioning. From what I saw on the press conference they showed a few hours ago the victims were of various ages, genders, and backgrounds. I am thinking this is a situation of a young man, with troubles in general, who somehow got a hold of a weapon he never should have been in possession with and created mayhem to make some kind of point, if only in his own mind.

There's a manifesto from Reddit somewhere. Origins are iffy at this time. Also there are claims of twitter posts saved by Antifa. The manifesto claims support for the Christchurch killer and what they're calling "the great replacement theory" which claims non-Europeans will overwhelm European cultures and the white race by immigration and superior numbers of childbirths. The Antifa tweets are anti-immigration, a dislike of both political parties but support for Trump's efforts to build a wall.
