yeah it wasn't the carbon tax alone, but it was their increase in every other tax known to man and then even mentioning royalty review. So I never blamed the NDP for the state of Alberta's economy..but I sure hold their feet to the fire to making it a whole pile worse! |

actually they didn't, but even suggesting a review pretty much stopped what little investment in the oil industry there was. And the most ironic part, when their own report was released it said, yeah it's good the way it is. |

They didn't ask for more royalties. The review, which was entirely justified, found that the amount of royalties being paid was the correct amount and the Notley government wisely didn't pursue the issue further. The review itself though has become a bugbear for both extreme sides, with the lefties prattling on that the companies "gotta pay more!" even after a left-wing government found otherwise, and also with the insane righties who remain offended to their core that a review even happened at all. Once again the extremists show that they have much more in common with each other than they ever will with the normal people in the middle. |

In fairness to Albertans I think there should be an automatic review twice a decade. I don't believe that the companies are ripping us off, like the hardcore lib/left nutbags keep screeching about. It should be just kept as transparent as possible in order to assure the citizens of this province that we're getting our rightful amount under the law. Investors have to take a backseat sometimes and they should stop panicking anyway considering that the last review didn't cost them any money at all. If they're losing value in their investment it's far more from the continuing woes of the overall world O&G prices, woes that include the activities of the Canadian federal government, far more than anything as minor as a royalty review by a provincial government. |

Every other facet of the economy demands that each fiscal quarter earns more than the last quarter. Why shouldn't we also charge more for the limited resources they buy from us? That's capitalism, right? |

With the more regressive provincial governments--namely BC and Quebec's--within our country attempting to hinder access to other markets along with foreign interlopers, we do not have has much leverage to raise royalties. Especially with energy companies fleeing the country because Canada and its people are not worth investing in because of their fickle and self-satisfied attitudes. |

Perhaps you should define regressive as BC's Premier is one of the most popular, and BC has one of the most effective governments and economies. You must define regressive as "non-assholic" like Fiddledog does. |
