I hope they find the criminal who did this. I know the family who owns the gondola. They are in the midst of mourning their mother who died recently - a victim of bone cancer. I can't imagine what they are going through right now and my heart goes out to them.

Nah. Teens or some other sort of dumbass vandal would just trash the place, or shoot the windows out of the cable-cabs with a slingshot or high-powered BB gun. Going for the main cable to wreck the entire line takes planning and thought, not mindless stupidity. The cops even said as much, that it was basically the deliberate targeting of the most critical part of the line. And eco-freaks have had any sort of cable line, for skiing or sightseeing, as one of their major targets for decades. That's why no new major ski resort projects have happened in BC or Alberta for years, because the opposition is so rabid and practically openly admitting from the beginning that they'll start trashing equipment and burning down newly-completed buildings like lodges if they get the chance.

Hope the feds and Transmountain have paid well for security because there's no way this sort of targeted destruction won't happen to TMX as sections of pipeline start to get put together and laid in the ground. That's when the real sabotage will start occurring, when things get past the two-thirds completion stage where they can cause the most expensive sort of damage.

Terrorism is defined in the Code of Federal Regulations as “the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.

1st thing to look at is who owns it and who's got it out for them.
